Points of Interest from the Story of Jacob’s Ladder:
Jacob's ladder as a connection between heaven and earth, with God taking the initiative to reach out to man. The perfect "ladder" is Our Lord, Jesus Christ, who was God come to earth to save humanity. Jesus refers to himself as this ladder in John 1:51: "And he (Jesus) said to him, 'Truly, truly I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.'"

This scripture encouraged me. There are times we will wrestle in our walk to work out our personal salvation.

We all have our heroes in scripture. Joseph who became 2nd to Pharaoh, Noah fallowed though with faith and humanity was saved, King David, favored by God for his humble ways but, he slays Goliath, Paul " the chief " sinner who converted and became forever known for his writing to the new churches. I could go on and on. There are great women in the scripture as well. All scripture is from inspiration of the Holy Ghost.

I wonder if the ladder Jacob saw was an extension ladder, a rope ladder, or an attic stair that folds out. But one thing I know. It was not a step ladder.

lol.. funny. I actually work on ladders all day. All types. There is all types of symbolism used by man like the star of David. It is two triangles. The triangle pointing downward symbolizes God reaching to mankind. The triangle pointing up symbolizes mankind reach up to God.

Very good. I see you understand my point about the step ladder.

Treat yourself to lunch today. :)

I wonder if Images, statues, paintings, and symbolism to express our love for God is different? What do you think? Is there a difference? God said to make no engraven images of him or heaven. So, why is there so many items made to show our faith? is it right to have a star of David or a cross?

The ladder can also be symbolic of not only Jesus coming down to our level in his humility and love for us, but also us taking the steps up to follow him as in forsaking all and picking up our cross to follow him

I've always enjoyed that story. There he was, running away from his brother who wants to kill him and he's out striking deals with God... and realizing God is bigger than his old geographics. Have you ever wondered why he saw Angels going up to heaven? I know what midrash says about it, but I still ponder the significance.
Thanks!

post what the midrash says or do I have to go to chabad to see that?

Midrash basically says that the Angels acceding were the Angels of Sodom and Gomorrah as they were punished for their deeds until the time of Jacob when they were allowed back into the heavenly realm. I don't know that I fully buy into it, although it does seem to hold some merit and value. However, I am open to other views and Lady Terra seems to have a working understanding of the story and I get the feeling I'd rather enjoy hearing what she has to say. :) I especially liked the verse she posted speaking of the Angels accending and decending because it takes the same verbiage from the Genesis account and John writes from the position of First Mention which is a Jewish writing style... so I'm thinking John is referring back to Jacob's ladder as Lady Terra has expressed and it's really perked my interest!

I don't buy that either. I don't see that the angels would have that said about them then paul aware of that doctrine writing that angels minister and look unto to understand redemption.

Ha! Brother, your going to have to slow down and write a bit clearer lol. I can't understand a word you just wrote lol!

Anyway, goodnight and I'll try to catch you on Monday. Take care Jason!

paul being a rabbi would know of that midrash. yet he said the angels look unto us to understand what the redemption is.

That story reminds me of "Stairway To Heaven" And this strikes me more in the song lyrics:
"Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on."

I have never heard of the Angles from Sodom and Gomorrah were punished. I have to go back and read and check this??? As far as I know Angles were sent to lead Lot and his Family out of Sodom and Gomorrah. Can you please give me your reference for it?

the midrash isn't in the bible, its part of the Talmud. for a look go to chabad.org and search that website, but be warned those aren't Christians but Chassidic Jews.

And your post reminds me of where Robert Plant asks, "does anybody remember laughter" in the live version of Stairway to Heaven that used to get a lot of airplay.

For years I've been wandering around the work place quoting that line in my best Robert Plant persona and everybody just looks at me real weird with this 'I have no idea what you're talking about' look on their face (kind of like what happens in the Theology folder, lol). Only one guy, back in 1995, ever knew what I was referring to....but even then it took a lot of prompting on my part to jar his memory, lol.

The ladder itself may be alive as everything else in heaven seems to be.
