Jeep brake problems

reservoir always full
spongy brakes
pedal to floor once in a while
brake light always on

My guess is the master cylinder is cooked. Your thoughts?

The master could be cooked, and also there could be air in the lines, brakes going down to the floor can be air in the lines, or bad wheel cylinders, or a leaking caliper, bleed them and see what you get.

bled them at the garage today and the front bled well however the rear did not bleed at all. The brakes got firmer but if you pumped them too much they went to the floor.

Could it be water in the line that froze up?

either way the garage ordered a master brake cylinder and they are switching it out tomorrow.

water in the brake lines would cause a lot more than that. does it have abs, internal lk there as the dump valves are stuck open.

This is a good reason why to flush the system every yr.

Nope, no ABS and no noticeable Internal leaking.

I should have flushed it when i bought it seeing as i have no clue as to the history of this vehicle.

The rubber cap seal is all big and soft, perhaps someone put the wrong kind of fluid or something in there before.

then i would replace all the hydraulics, the seals have allowed fluid to by pass in the master cylinder and the other slave cylinders(wheel cylinders) and calipers may follow. Did you or another add powersteering fluid or dot5 to the system? Dot 5 shouldnt, in theory, affect the system but it has been known to do so.

Was the fluid a little diferent, like it had a scum on top of it. If so it may have had dot5 silicone brake fluid put in it instead f dot 3 or dot 4.

Not a scum but it was darker then the stuff they used at the garage. Like i said i have no clue on the history of the vehicle before i bought it.

dot5 has a purple/yellow color to it. someone probably put oil in the system and seals swelled, that's what it sound like to me.

Well hopefully the new MC fixes it :bigfrown

Got back from the garage. 239$ later talk about a financial kick in the...

The brake pedal is hard now but the brake still seem weak.

i wish i could test drive that thing. Does the front end deep upon braking excessively and also allow a rapid rise upon accleration?

weak shocks tranfer forward energy as they dont stop the normal dip. without this the cars take longer to stop.
