Joel osteen

to be fair, we should consider we could be wrong. I had this discussion with my mma coach. but I don't like his style even if he is right with god.

I think what bothers me most when I hear stuff about Joel and Lakewood being false is that mostly it is the wrong information like I listed before. We have baptism, we have bibles, we have communion etc. I don't understand why people say that stuff.

One day i was as griping and complaining about some teaching or teacher.. Mom in her simple way said... reba chew the meat and spit out the bones...
Thank the Lord i am not the same christian i was 50 years ago !

Yeah some people at church say the same thing. They usually stick to the other pastors. Yes the church is HUGE. Houston has a 5 million people you know. I got to stand up at the main stage once. It was scary just to stand up there with mostly empty seats. All in all between all the services I think Lakewood fills up 4 times on Sunday and twice on Wednesday. We have something going on pretty much every day though.

Hehe, imagine standing on that stage at the mic, all by yourself, and in front of you 15,000 people looking at you with expectation. :thumbsup

Isn't a church of that size way too big to feel at home there? You wouldn't really meet people there, because with some thousand service attendants your chances of meeting the same person twice are slim. So wouldn't be much of a personal fellowship feeling.

I'm getting the feeling you spend more time discussiong stuff with your coach than practicing mma. :lol

Then I would like that respect. I like Joel Osteen, and that's my choice. I also have the right to post what I want in a reasonable manner. And the thing I was watching was the live video of his sermon. And I understand there are other preachers there, but Joel seems to be the one that does most sermons.

no, we chat after class. most of his students are Christians, and homeschool. I seldom now talk theology with him. though I will do so. he is an ordained youth pastor.

I'm not disagreeing with ya Sister but I also don't believe that you are going to get much meat in any of Joel's sermons. It's gonna be a mighty small meal

.

No It isn't too big to feel at home. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Also, I guess it might be I am used to living in a large city. Most places in Houston are crowded. Just going to the grocery store can be a challenge. Lakewood is far from the only big church. Second Baptist is also just as big. If we only had small churches we wouldn't have room for any other building in the city lol

I respectfully disagree with that review. Joel teaches the meat of the teaching of Jesus. To love and help one another. To be strong in the lord, and know that with faith nothing can really harm you, and that any challenge can be overcome.

that's the basics. I don't need to watch him for that. my pastor teaches that.

Thanks. I am getting used to the site. There are a lot of buttons, and forums. I am having fun exploring.
Welcome to CF.net dear Brother Kevin. The reason there are so many churches or separate divisions in the body of Christ is our different personalities and stages of growth. We should all rejoice when our brethren are being fed in the word of God to the extent they're able to take in for the moment. Paul put it like this in Philippians 1:18 "What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice."

The present assembly I now attend when I'm able is not my first rodeo either; I am the labor of love of God as He works in me to will and to do of His good pleasure, and He isn't done with me yet. Philippians 2:13.

Delight in the blessings you receive through that ministry thanking God as you grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord, and I also hope we here at this forum can also encourage and edify your spiritual walk as we fellowship one with the other in Jesus' name.

At Lakewood? I am not sure what you mean. We have no gay preachers at lakewood.

that church is on one of the routes I read meters on and its a starting place(one of my favorite routs and the quickest finished). I wondered what they teach as I heard the rumour and I remember the split. so I checked them out, I found nothing bad, I thought I was wrong until I talked a member of its sister church that broke away years ago and he walked me through the past stories.

I am not advertising for the TV show.

As for everything in life the fundamentals need to be practiced and repeated to stay sharp. I am glad you have a good church of your own.

Fair enough. Can I ask you a favor? You seem to know Joel's teachings quite well. Would you agree that the meat of the teaching of our Lord is how to obtain salvation? The only sermons of Joel that I have ever seen are simply self-help, feel good guides. I can read the same in any secular bookstore. Would you please post a link of one of Joel's sermons telling me what is necessary for my salvation?
