Judging others

There is often a negative feeling expressed in discussions along the lines that "I am right and you are wrong" when disagreeing about a thread's content. Unfortunately these comments deviate from the subject of the post into "I'm holier/smarter/more Christian than you", as though that settles the issue being discussed. This behavior reminds me of this parable...

"Jesus also told this parable to some who were confident that they were righteous and looked down on everyone else. “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed about himself like this: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: extortionists, unrighteous people, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.’ The tax collector, however, stood far off and would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, be merciful to me, sinner that I am!’ I tell you that this man went down to his home justified rather than the Pharisee. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 18:9-14

The people that exalt themselves with their self-righteous, self-centered comments (like the Pharisee) need to examine their behavior.
 
I think that I may have contributed to this also? AT least a little. So I apologize Brother, those Liberal comments were largely tongue in cheek when I said them. I was just funning. Nevertheless, you make a good point and I'll try to tone the humor down some.


FYI, you can come across as fairly arrogant when you talk sometimes. Not always but at times.

What I like about this parable is that it reminds me how unlike the Pharisees I am. And not the tax collector either, though humility is certainly my forte.
Hopefully my good example on this forum, can be like a beacon. A shining light. To show others what true Christian virtue and humility looks like. Go torch go!!
 
Hmm not sure I would compare those you are talking about to "(like the Pharisee)". One they were not saved :) Granted I am knew here yet know what your talking about. One could also say or in truth ask what does "love" see? :)

A man knocked on my door one day talking about God. He asked me what religion I was. I told him and he said he had prayed to find the truth and that he was on the right one. He was trying to convert mr. I told him I had said that prayer too
He said I was in the wrong and he was right. Then he asked me "Why do you think God gave us different answers?" I asked him if he was trying to say his prayer was better than mine. He wouldn't answer that
I believe we are all where God wants us to be at any particular time.
 
Very well spoken. I had the same thoughts. But didn't know how to say. You did it.
So many opinions and views.
Let us hold fast to saying the same things!
 
Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Heb 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

This statement by Paul does a wonderful job describing God's desire of us, the Body of Christ. This is what we need to keep in our hearts when we are discussing the various beliefs of others.

Galatians 5:19-26 teaches us the fruits of the flesh and the fruits of the Spirit and these are the only things we are to judge by that which comes out of the mouth.

Unity of the Spirit means we walk in love, no matter what another believes as we are to present that of our understanding and also give the source and scriptures to support that of what we present. Be slow to read and slower to reply back to others as there are many misunderstandings.

I know I look to you as a paragon of humility, virtue, and good looks to boot. :)

I do wish, though, you were as humble as me. Thinking about it, I may change my name to "humblest soul".

That is good news. Perhaps we could have a humble contest on here. Then each person can campaign to get voted the humblest soul on christianforum net.
What did you do in the past year that proves you are the humblest soul?
Let others speak first because you lost your train of thought?
Let someone in a queue ahead of you? Because they looked like an outlaw motor cycle gang member.
Decided not to boast because you are already convinced of your superiority?

Seems to me when a person is begging for mercy, they have come to the end of thinking they have some claim on God's goodness. They are done with thinking their obedience, love, sacrifice, etc. merits God's goodness. They realize they do not have a leg to stand on when it comes to deserving God's favor and in final desperation, they simply appeal to the character of God, for God is a merciful God.

Question: "who has given a gift to Him that he might be repaid?"
Answer: none of us; we have nothing to commend ourselves to His favor and are left to appeal for mercy.

Thankfully, He is rich in mercy.

Hi Jaybo
I really don't hear people on this forum say "you're wrong and I'm right".
Pretty much it seems to me that we're pretty nice to each other.
We might slip once in a while, it's human - like when we sin and ask forgiveness.

I want to say that I think it's a good idea to have a forum like this.
I depend on this forum a lot for fellowship reasons.
It's nice when someone agrees with you and it's also nice when someone
tells you something different.
It's a way to maybe learn something new, (maybe)
and it's a way to understand how some others come to their conclusions about
different subject matter.

I just pray we all love God and are doing our best to serve and be disciples of Jesus...
which is the best way I can describe Christianity.
