There has NEVER been so many people alive in known history and on top of that they have built societies in opposition to God and the natural world.
- I'm very glad you have mentioned Joel 2 I believe this great army is already here. Mankind at 7 billion is this army eating up and destroying creation. Notice what the full meaning of 'great' is #7227
- many
- abounding in
- more numerous than
- abundant,
"The land is like the garden of Eden before them But a desolate wilderness behind them,"
For myself we need to allow ourselfs to not only 'see' but to 'preceive' and connect everyday reality to the scriptures.
These events are underway!
Digging
Um...
The people that come great and strong - are the saints.
Examine their characteristics:
A people come, great and strong,
The like of whom has never been;
Nor will there ever be any such after them,
Even for many successive generations.
3 A fire devours before them,
And behind them a flame burns;
The land is like the Garden of Eden before them,
And behind them a desolate wilderness;
Surely nothing shall escape them.
4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses;
And like swift steeds, so they run.
5 With a noise like chariots
Over mountaintops they leap,
Like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble,
Like a strong people set in battle array.
6 Before them the people writhe in pain;
All faces are drained of color.[a]
7 They run like mighty men,
They climb the wall like men of war;
Every one marches in formation,
And they do not break ranks.
8 They do not push one another;
Every one marches in his own column.[b]
Though they lunge between the weapons,
They are not cut down.[c]
9 They run to and fro in the city,
They run on the wall;
They climb into the houses,
They enter at the windows like a thief.
This is NOT what human beings can do with their present nature. Also, you don't see any indicators here of aircraft, tanks, etc... this is the description of their raw physical power. Those are Translated saints!.
And look who's army they are:
Joel 2:11 The Lord gives voice before His army,
For His camp is very great;
Joel is actually describing the battle between the Saints of God and the people of the Earth, after the translation of the saints both dead and alive.
May the Lord bring clarity to the reading of his Word.
Maybe they are resurrected saints, maybe not...
2Ki 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
2Ki 6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
2Ki 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
I lean toward resurrected saints for God's army, but not convinced. As far as power...
Angels have vast power...
2Sa 24:15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
2Sa 24:16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.
2Ki 19:35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
Could be angels, could be resurrected saints.
