Let's talk a 1000

  1. I'm very glad you have mentioned Joel 2 I believe this great army is already here. Mankind at 7 billion is this army eating up and destroying creation. Notice what the full meaning of 'great' is #7227
  2. many
  3. abounding in
  4. more numerous than
  5. abundant,
There has NEVER been so many people alive in known history and on top of that they have built societies in opposition to God and the natural world.

"The land is like the garden of Eden before them But a desolate wilderness behind them,"

For myself we need to allow ourselfs to not only 'see' but to 'preceive' and connect everyday reality to the scriptures.

Um...

The people that come great and strong - are the saints.

Examine their characteristics:

A people come, great and strong,
The like of whom has never been;
Nor will there ever be any such after them,
Even for many successive generations.
3 A fire devours before them,
And behind them a flame burns;
The land is like the Garden of Eden before them,
And behind them a desolate wilderness;
Surely nothing shall escape them.
4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses;
And like swift steeds, so they run.
5 With a noise like chariots
Over mountaintops they leap,
Like the noise of a flaming fire that devours the stubble,
Like a strong people set in battle array.

6 Before them the people writhe in pain;
All faces are drained of color.[a]
7 They run like mighty men,
They climb the wall like men of war;
Every one marches in formation,
And they do not break ranks.
8 They do not push one another;
Every one marches in his own column.[b]
Though they lunge between the weapons,
They are not cut down.[c]
9 They run to and fro in the city,
They run on the wall;
They climb into the houses,
They enter at the windows like a thief.

This is NOT what human beings can do with their present nature. Also, you don't see any indicators here of aircraft, tanks, etc... this is the description of their raw physical power. Those are Translated saints!.

And look who's army they are:
Joel 2:11 The Lord gives voice before His army,
For His camp is very great;

Joel is actually describing the battle between the Saints of God and the people of the Earth, after the translation of the saints both dead and alive.

May the Lord bring clarity to the reading of his Word.

Maybe they are resurrected saints, maybe not...

2Ki 6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
2Ki 6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
2Ki 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

I lean toward resurrected saints for God's army, but not convinced. As far as power...

Angels have vast power...

2Sa 24:15 So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.
2Sa 24:16 And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

2Ki 19:35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

Could be angels, could be resurrected saints.

So with these verses you don't feel a little out of context??

I mean, at least I use Day of the Lord verses ya know :)

Just showing you that it may be resurrected saints and it may be an army of angels. Joel 2 does not tell us which. Show me in Joel 2 where it says they are saints.

This is a topic very dear to my heart and I've spent many hours thinking about it. There are other scriptures in the bible that compare people to locust.

Nahum 3:15 NAS

There fire will consume you, The sword will cut you down ; It will consume you as the locust does. Multiply yourself like the creeping locust, Multiply yourself like the swarming locust.

Nahum 3:17 NAS

Your guardsmen are like the swarming locust. Your marshals are like hordes of grasshoppers Settling in the stone walls on a cold day. The sun rises antd they flee, And the place where they are is not known.

I firmly believe mankind of today is the locust.

They are not Angels. Look at the H5971. It's the Hebrew word AM. H5971 is not used to describe angels.

Strong's H5971
1) nation, people
a) people, nation
b) persons, members of one's people, compatriots, country-men
2) kinsman, kindred

Both responses are leaning in a certain direction ... the judgment. How it will be executed. I stick to my view on it but with further explanation...

I am a firm believer that the 70th week in Daniel is a literal week, while the 69 weeks total 483 years. Daniel is given 70 weeks total to the Messiah. But, interestingly enough the weeks are broken down to 7 weeks and 62 weeks, Daniel 9:25-26. Mysteriously, the 70th week disappears when the Lord reveals more details to Daniel's vision. This is done by divine design IMHO. The 70th week encompasses both of Christ's advents. And here's how this is possible...

Jesus was in the heart of the Earth for three days and nights Mathew 12:40, For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Now what was Jesus doing at that time? Answer is found in 1 Peter 3:18-20, For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us[e] to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited[f] in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

This is literal. Peter makes no hint of any kind that this is some sort of parable or meta physical thing like some have tried to explain. And it makes perfect sense that Jesus would preach to those who never had a chance to receive Christ as savior since they predated his first advent. That took three days and three nights.

Well it just so happens that there are four days and four nights in between the end of the Day of Atonement and the start of the first day of the feast of Tabernacles. How convenient one might say, well .. yes how convenient indeed, because that is when Jesus will again preach to all those souls who never heard his gospel after his resurrection. There must have been untold millions of people come and gone that never heard the gospel after 31 AD. People living on islands, Australia, the Americas, etc...

This is all handled at the Great White Throne Judgment.

3 days of preaching to lost spirits in first advent and four days of preaching to lost spirits at the second advent. Completing the work of the Messiah in the 70th week.

Hence this passage: “Seventy weeks[a] are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.

Here we diagree, I am firmly convinced the final week of Daniel 9 is seven years. I do not believe that the prophecy mixes and matches without giving a clue. There is a prophecy that does mix and match, but the clue is there to show it does...

Rev 12:6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

(Num 14:34 and Ezek 4:6) This is 1260 years. Now drop down a few...

Rev 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

And in this case it is 3-1/2 years.

Dan 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

The term time, times and half a time is 3-1/2 years, whereas I beleive that in Dan 9 the 70 weeks are the same, no mix and match.

Isa 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

A shortened form of H2042; a mountain or range of hills (sometimes used figuratively): - hill (country), mount (-ain), X promotion.

Means mountain, but prophetically it means great kingdom. Same principle, it is a metaphor. One cannot always take the word used in prophecy at face value.

Funny - that is Exactly where I see Christ and his translated followers ascending too from the newly created valley, they are heading back up to Mt Zion.

So far, you are not far from what I see.

Will occur throughout the Millenium...

Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.

And here we see it occurring from year to year, one thousand years to be exact.

Yup we differ LOL

That same verse you used I see as Eternity in the New Earth. 1000 years/1 day is behind it. :)
