Looking for Good Old Testament/New Testament History Books

Hi. I joined this forum within the last couple of days. I've been looking for a couple of good old testament and new testament Bible period history books, written by Bible scholars who are themselves committed Christians. Can anyone make any suggestions? Thank you. Dan.
