Mark 5:25-34

  • Now there is a woman who has had a flow of blood for 12 years!
  • She has suffered a lot at the hands of many physicians!
  • She has spent all her resources!
  • She has become worse!
  • And she hears about Jesus!
  • So she decides to touch his outer garment!
  • And she is healed all at once!
  • What a difference!
  • Imagine her feelings!
  • And Jesus realizes what has happened!
  • So he asks who did it!
  • The woman is frightened and is trembling!
  • She falls down before Jesus and tells him everything!
  • He blesses her!
  • It shows what God’s kingdom will do pretty soon!

Mark 5:35,36

  • The daughter of the presiding officer has just died!
  • But Jesus tells him to have faith!
  • Simple words!
  • Easy to understand!
  • Now the presiding officer has come because he knows what Jesus can do!
  • So when Jesus tells him to have faith, he understands perfectly what it means!
  • Jesus speaks as someone who knows and the people who really know him know what he is able to do!

Mark 5:37-39

  • The people are weeping and wailing loudly!
  • Jesus asks them why they are acting that way!
  • He knows why but he wants to show them that he thinks differently!
  • He says the child is sleeping!
  • Because he can resurrect people!
  • And in fact, that’s what he will do when he leads God’s kingdom after the Big One!
  • We may remember that when he died some people were resurrected!

Remember:

Biblical Hebrew has a very small number of words, about 8,000, and around 1,700 of those words are hapax legomena (being said once) in the Hebrew Bible. Modern Hebrew has about 100,000 words. For comparison modern English has over 450,000 words, and Spanish has just over 175,000 words. Standard English dictionaries typically have about 200,000 words, whereas Spanish dictionaries have about 80,000 words.

This means words often have multiple meanings determined by context.

Although yom is commonly rendered as day in English translations, the word yom can be used in different ways to refer to different time spans:

  • Point of time (a specific day)
  • time period of a whole or half a day:
    • Period of light (as contrasted with the period of darkness),
    • Sunrise to sunset
    • Sunset to next sunset
  • General term for time ( as in 'days of our lives')
  • A year "lived a lot of days"
  • Time period of unspecified length. "days and days"

The Greek language is ranked as the richest in the world with 5 million words and 70 million word types. According to Dr. MacDonald, only 600,000 Greek words are used today, making the Greek vocabulary the largest in the world and 3.5 times bigger than the English vocabulary.

Though there are 138,607 words in the Greek New Testament, only 5,394 are unique.

  • And immediately she rises and begins walking!
  • And he tells them to give her something to eat!

64) Looking for Jesus

Mark 6:1-3

  • Jesus teaches in the synagogue!
  • And people are astounded by his wisdom and his powerful works because he is a carpenter!
  • Their surprise indicates how far they are from Yah.weh!
  • It reminds us of the time when Samuel arrived at the house of Yah.weh!
  • It sounds like Yah.weh had never been their God!
  • Only man’s tradition!
  • Everything is empty!

65) Looking for Jesus

- In Mark 6, Jesus is back in his home territory!

- And people know him as the son of the carpenter, the son of Mary and they know all his siblings!

- So they know him as a normal person!

- Not as someone who has such abilities to teach in the synagogue!

- So they don’t believe in him!

- Anyway, he cures people!

- But it won’t change anything!

- And Jesus is amazed at their lack of faith!

- is it so surprising?

- After all, they are just human beings!

- Once again it shows the necessity to do his best to get accurate knowledge!

- But a lot of effort is required!

66) Looking for Jesus

- In Mark 6:7-13, Jesus sends the Twelve two by two!

- And he gives them authority over the unclean spirits!

- They must take nothing with them!

- They stay at the house of those who receive them!

- They must tell people to repent!

- And they cure people!

- Thus he prepares them to be able to keep the preaching work after his death!

- May we follow such an example!

67) Looking for Jesus

- In Mark 6:14-16, We are told Jesus is well known for his miracles!

- Even king Herod hears about him!

- Many think he is John the Baptist!

- Others think he is Elijah!

- Or a prophet like in the past!

- Thus the Pharisees have no excuse!

- Because they choose their personal power!

- We must also choose!

- We can’t wait and see!

____________________________________________________________
  • In Luke 19, Jesus tells us an interesting illustration about God’s kingdom!
  • An important man must go to a distant land to secure kingly power!
  • To his ten slaves he gives money to do business with it till he comes back!
  • When he comes back, he wants to know what his slaves have done with their business activity!
  • According to what they have done he gives them authority over cities!
  • BUT ONE SLAVE HASN’T DONE ANYTHING!
  • And he takes what he gave to this slave and gives it to the one who did the best job!
  • SO THOSE WHO HAVE MORE WILL BE GIVEN!
  • BUT THOSE WHO DON’T HAVE IT WILL BE TAKEN AWAY WHAT THEY HAVE!
  • What about you?

  • Maybe you remember that Yah.weh prevented David from building his temple because he was a soldier and he spent a big part of his life making war!

  • In fact, everything we hear in the first part of the Bible has nothing but nothing to do with what a Christian must or mustn’t do!
  • THUS WHEN PEOPLE USE THE FIRST PART OF THE BIBLE TO JUSTIFY ANY PRACTICE IS TOTALLY WRONG AND HAS NOTHING BUT NOTHING TO DO WITH JESUS’ TEACHING!
  • I CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO THINK ABOUT IT!

68) Looking for Jesus

- In Mark 6:34, Jesus sees a large crowd!

- And he feels pity for them because they don’t have any shepherds!

- And he teaches them!

- Thus Jesus shows his deep concern for people!

- Thus it gives us a good idea of what he will do with God’s kingdom!

- First I don't teach people!

- I read the Bible and I tell people about what I learn!

- When they ask me questions, I try to answer them!

- When it is possible to have a discussion, we have a discussion!

- If you look at the titles of my threads, I speak about the books of the Bible and especially about the faithful servants of Yah.weh!

- When it is different, it is because many people repeat the same arguments without knowing so I have to show how it works!

- It is necessary to check!

- About John 1:1, it is necessary to check through the Gospel of John about the use of the definite article or not!

- About Jesus' siblings, it is necessary to check the vocabulary used and the context in the different Gospels!

- About the reality of translations, it is necessary to analyze them!

- Before publishing a message, I usually publish the same information connected to the usual mistakes people make!

- Or important facts which must be remembered!

  • BUT 24,000 DIED!

- WHAT ABOUT US?

  • YOU MUST DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN, THEN YOU WILL START TO LEARN ABOUT THE BIBLE!

69) Looking for Jesus

- In Mark 6:45-52, there is a storm, the disciples are on a boat and Jesus comes to them walking on the sea!

- The disciples think it is an apparition!

- They can’t believe it!

- Then Jesus speaks to them!

- And they are amazed!

- But they shouldn’t!

- After seeing so many miracles from Jesus, they should know that nothing is impossible for Jesus!

- But they are men meaning they are limited!

- What about us?

70) Looking for Jesus

- In Mark 6:53-56, when Jesus arrives at Gennesaret, it spreads like a fire and everyone arrives where Jesus is!

- And they bring people to be cured!

- And they just need to touch him to be cured!

- It must have been completely crazy!

- And Jesus keeps on curing people!

- Again and again!

- Jesus never complains!

71) Looking for Jesus

  • Pharisees and scribes argue with Jesus!
  • They say Jesus’ disciples don’t respect man’s traditions!
  • Jesus answers them calling them hypocrites saying that Isaiah prophesied about them saying:
  • Mark 7:6: These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me!
  • Mark 7:7: They worship me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men!
  • Mark 7:8: You have disregarded the commandment of God to keep the tradition of men!
