Bible Study Lords Supper

Hi,

Perhaps I misunderstood you, but I do glory in the cross (Gal. 6:14).

Respectfully,

Adelphos

We absolutely glory in the cross!
If you look at the function of the Alter, then you are also able to see the function of the cross.

At the Alter, one did not glory in the sacrifice. It was a solemn time when a life was taken. When a life is taken, there is never rejoicing, even the Israelite's encountered the bitter waters of Mara after the Egyptians were drown. Sacrafice is always bitter sweet.

But what occurred on the Alter as the sacrifice was given up to God for forgiveness, afforded a time of dedication, or re dedication for the worshiper and when the meat was taken off the Alter to be eaten, it was done in the presence of God with community.

The Alter grounds the Table, just as the Cross grounds the Table for they both served the same function of reconciliation. What happens at the table is cause of what occurred at the Cross.

I did a study on communion long back. I believe the attached document will be useful.

Looks like you put a lot of time into that and you've included many elements.

How do you see the John 6 passage?

We eat His body the true food, so that we become as one body in Him (Joh 6:56, Eph 4:4)
John 6:56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

Ephesians 4:4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were call

I would like to hear your summary on how the passage in John 6 reflects upon the Lord's table when we partake in communion.

Doing the will of God (Joh 4:34) and seeking Him (Psa 34:10) is the true food (Joh 6:55) which is referred by Christ as His flesh (John 6:56) which does not make us hunger.
Receiving the promise of Holy Spirit through faith (Gal 3:14), which in other words, drinking the water which Christ gives (Joh 4:14), which is the true drink is referred by Christ as His blood (Joh 6:55) which does not make us thirst.

So, the Lord's supper is not about eating bread and drinking wine, nor does kingdom of Heaven is about eating and drinking, but doing the will of God by seeking Him which is eating His flesh, and receiving and being always being filled with the Holy Spirit which is drinking His blood.
