Ok ta I thought I'd check because there's a growing number of Christians who reject that Yahweh uses anything bad to discipline us. I agree with you.

As a rule I do not believe that the Lord makes people sick or dead BUT there are clearly times when He has. Ananias and his wife were struck dead for lying to God.
I believe that the Lord's Supper is so holy that this is why the punishment is so sever.
 
Free and Agua have covered what I have learned to be correct. And if we read the scriptures in the correct manor, when we read this and use the light of all other scripture, we are, always, to sacrifice, personal sacrifice God, our Lord. If I sit down to a meal of Taco De Pastur, Iced Tea ad all the Peppers I can eat, I have not sacrificed nor am I likely think of my Lord as I pig out.
