Love

<dir>1Jn 4:7

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
1Jn 4:8

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
1Jn 4:9

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1Jn 4:10

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

I thought I knew love, but He showed me more love.:chin

</dir>

<dir>Eph 3:17

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
Eph 3:18

May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

</dir>
Eph 3:19

And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Gods Love is like an endless sea, most of us get into the "kiddy pool" withour flippers and floaties and splash a little on others and think we know love?:lol

Adam loved Eve. Was it 'love' that made him disobey God and obey the wife ....by eating the forbbiden fruit??? :dunno :confused :shrug

What is LOVE? How do you define LOVE?
Thanx

John 3.16 For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth on him shall have everlasting life. This is the most important defiinition. The next one for me is family, child, sexual love.

Two married people cuddling in bed
Hugging a baby who is looking into your eyes:)

4 type of love...i forget the Greek terms....

affection, erotic love, friend ship love, self-giving (agape...I got one!) love.

In no particular order, of course. Agape love is what God shows us and what we, as Christians, should strive to show both each other and a dying, dark, unbelieving world.

Interesting:thumbsup
Is love always right?
No.

Only God's kind of love, agape, is always right, because by definition God's love is the desire for the highest good of another person, and it never fails because the giving of it is not conditioned on the value of the person receiving it. That's why it can love it's enemies. But the other kinds of love are conditioned on the value of the object receiving that love, so they can be corrupted by selfish motives. God's love can not be. By definition it ceases to be God's kind of love if that happens.

Probably the best definition of God's love in the Bible is this:

"10 Love does no harm to its neighbor." (Romans 13:10 NIV1984)

This is the practical definition of love that we Christians must know so we can continually monitor our behavior and live in the will of God that counts on a daily, minute to minute basis.

Apart from love itself, I consider all the fruit of the Spirit the way that we are to love others and please God:

"22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV1984)

Love itself being the glue that holds them all together:

"14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." (Col. 3:14 NIV1984)

Love for others (concern for their good, apart from the condition of their worthiness) is what causes us to be patient, kind, good, peaceable, joyful (not irritable), faithful, gentle, self controlled, forgiving, compassionate, and humble.

Above all the things that we Christians like to argue is important in the life of the Christian, love is what matters. Love is the ultimate will of God for every Christian. Love is the only thing that counts as the obligatory and expected outcome of being justified by faith in Christ's blood:

"The only thing that counts (in regard to justification--see context) is faith expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6 NIV1984)

And, as 1 Corinthians 13 teaches us, everything else you do for God is nothing if you have not love.

Love, and all the ways that it is displayed through the other fruit of the Spirit, is how we know we can know for ourselves that we are truly in the faith and saved. And it is how we discern true teachers and prophets in the church.

Yes!

It's a picture of the greatest love story ever told, how Jesus followed his beloved bride into the penalty of her sin by taking that penalty on himself.

Good stuff! Nothing will be held back from you! if?

1Jn 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Fear keeps us from the deeper things of God! Fear born from others opinions, failure, religions tradition, etc.. is all based on fear not faith, it is trusting man and not trusting God and all He has promised for us. But one who is confident in His Love will overcome all the fears in this world!

You sound as if you have that kind of Love!:thumbsup

Love can be different.

There is unconditional love, which is set when you emotionally commit to someone without the expectation of love in return. You can unconditionally love anyone, it is not necessarily set on a husband/wife.

There is a special love that only a husband/wife can create. Which is the recognition between two souls that they both equally fill the void in each others heart. It is the void that Adam had upon creation, which was ONLY quenched when Eve came into the picture as his soul companion.

Love is a really strong word, just like hate is. It is unfortunate, but not many people out there really know what it is to love. They throw around the word without really thinking of the consequences it can have. There are people out there who actually think that there abusive "husbands" love them...If people knew the true meaning of love, we wouldn't have a 50% divorce rate.

1 John 4:8 God is love.

The question is: do we have the godly love that will die for someone, or a love that is just fond of them?

That's a hard one. (maybe for one's wife/husband/child....tho it's rare these days, kinda)

John 14:23Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

John 5:10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete''
