In this chapter Jesus speaks of the end of all.
I have always wondered what verse 30 means:
"Surely I say to you, this generation (the whole multitude of people living at that one time) positively will not perish or pass away before all these things take place."
Does anyone have insight to this verse?
Hi Angel,
Jesus used the term "Generation" to describe the righteous and the wicked.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. (Mat 12:33-34 KJV)
39 But he answered and said unto them,
An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: (Mat 12:39 KJV)
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also
unto this wicked generation. (Mat 12:45 KJV)
33 Ye serpents,
ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? (Mat 23:33 KJV)
I think if you read chapter 13 you'll see that He is referring to the wicked, those who deceive.
5 And Jesus answering them began to say,
Take heed lest any man deceive you:
6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ;
and shall deceive many. (Mar 13:5-6 KJV)
9 But take heed to yourselves: for
they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. (Mar 13:9 KJV)
21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
22 Fo
r false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
(Mar 13:21-22 KJV)
I believe He is referring to the wicked as a generation.
