Matthew 25
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

If we have the means and opportunity to help those who are less fortunate than we, we should.

Though, it should be pointed out that we should be discerning when helping those who appear to be less fortunate that we, as there are many people who panhandle who actually might be better off.

I realize we all have our own burdens to carry and our journey does not always run parallel to one another, but this is the train of thought that I have adopted. It's what works for me.

Matthew 5
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Hebrews 13
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

Just a thought.

We give back to the love of Christ by helping those in need just as he helped us through his life, death and resurrection that the greatest commandment is love.

I love this verse .Ive had so many help me when I was living in a van and hungry and even now when Im not always able to get food .I have a couple awesome coworkers who "accidentally " make too much food and bring me a plate to work lol.I try to remember all this when I have anything of any nature to spare.God has definately moved through these people he is so amazing.

James 2
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Deuteronomy 15
11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Parents can understand how this works. When our kids suffer, we suffer right along with them. When they find relief, we are relieved, too. Christ identifies so closely with the suffering of people that when they are relieved, he is relieved, and when they are not relieved he is not relieved. So it is in that sense that when we either offer relief, or withhold it from the suffering we are doing so unto Christ himself.

17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?" (1 John 3:17 NASB)

IOW, if you have God's love inside of you how can you not be concerned for those whom God's love identifies so closely with?

Words alone minus actions profit the naked and destitute nothing. Likewise, words of faith without actions profit nothing toward validating a person as having that faith.

If we are applying this to law, not one can be left not comforted. Our example is Jesus dying for all regardless their sin. Maybe we can bring forth the teaching Jesus gave the ruler in Luke 18:18. And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? What shall I do, and oh the detractors we have of these instructions. We have many law keepers, and I dare say I haven’t ran into a one of them that has died for all as Jesus did.

You might next hear the justification of not seeing all. There are many in near every town and I do not see the excuse of only giving out of our abundance. Jesus said to sell all, and follow Him. What are Christians waiting for? GRACE? :shame

The idea of giving to the destitute is to bring them up to where we are at, not make ourselves destitute as they are:

13 ...this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality - 14 at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that there may be equality..." (2 Corinthians 8:13-14 NASB)

10 ...while we have opportunity (at this present time of your abundance), let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith. (Galatians 6:10 NASB parenthesis mine)

Luke 6:45 (NKJV) A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

The heart. It's where everything that comes out of us emanates from. Whether we do good or we do evil, it originates from one place; our heart. So many times we tend to look at people and we try to figure them out. We see someone do something evil and we wonder where it came from. What can make people do those types of things? We see people do some wonderful, kind and generous things. And we try to figure out what makes them so kind. It's all about the heart. Whether it's evil or good, it comes from the person's heart. The best thing we can ever do when we're praying for someone is to ask God to touch their heart. That's where everything begins. It's also where we need to let God work on us; in our heart.
When our heart is right, everything else is right; our attitude, our thoughts, our motives, our actions. So when you're praying, remember to pray for God to touch the heart, whether it's yours or someone else's.

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Luke 6:38 NIV
