Bible Study Matthew 5,6, and 7 and the law of Moses and the ten commandments

Love can only be fulfilled within oneself. If we are in Christ and he in us then we will understand the greatest commandment of love. Christ did not fulfill a commandment that states to love, but only made a proclamation of which was the greatest commandment in the law. To fulfill something means to make an end to or accomplish that that needed to be finished. How did Jesus fulfill love? Is love finished or do we continue in it?

John 15
13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

John 19
30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

Jesus fulfilled the 2nd commandment when He laid His life down for us.

Romans 5
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
.

John 15
13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

Romans 5
6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 10
11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

1 John 3
16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

These are not fulfillment of love, but acts of love. Fulfillment was went Christ became the last sacrifical Lamb and fulfilled that of the temple and sacrifices.

To fulfill something means to make an end to or accomplish that that needed to be finished.

Why does fulfill need to imply "make an end to " etc. It can also imply fill to the fullest or complete perfectly/ cram full etc.

Ok, please explain exactly what Jesus has to do to fulfill the 2nd commandment.
.

If Jesus didn't do it, then by all means you are correct, you must do it for yourself.
Can you walk in perfect love?

Yes, I do walk in perfect love, even for my enemies as I pray for them. I would also lay my life down for another.

Is not complete perfectly the same as make an end to something we set out to accomplish. If you complete that perfectly which you have set out to accomplish then it would be done or fulfilled.

This is a commandment not a fulfillment as to love our neighbor as our self we must continue in the instruction to love. Did Jesus continue to be sacrificed over and over to fulfill love?

So you never sin?

Yes I do sin at times when I do not guard my mouth, who doesn't, but that doesn't mean I do not walk in perfect love towards the one I get angry with. Even Jesus got angry at people, but he always had perfect love for them.

Perfect love does not sin.
Jesus is the only one who ever lived without sin, in perfect love for the Father and for people.
Jesus got angry and but did not sin.

  1. 1Jn_4:8

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

    1Jn_4:16

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Jesus is God He is love.... so say less is to deny His His place in the Trinity

yes

(Can you walk in perfect love? Deborah13, Today at 3:39 PM )

It's 6:00 pm here now, sorry Jeff I didn't see this earlier.

I'm not sure what you were getting at, by walking in love at any particular time, but....

I frequently mess up.
I have to quit navel gazing and just look at Jesus. Pray, chat with Him, listen to Christen music, listen to scriptures, read scripture........and I have an easy life.

what getting at > you asked a question, probably not expecting what you may think is an impossible answer.
I answered as Yhwh allowed.

reba edited.
2.4 . Address issues not personalities. Respect where people are in their spiritual walk, and respect all others in general. Respect where others are in their spiritual walk, do not disrupt the flow of discussion or act in a way that affects others negatively including when debating doctrinal issues, in the defense of the Christian faith, and in offering unwelcome spiritual advice..

coming real close to this one

7) Do not post opinions of another member's claim of Christian faith. (ToS 2.4)
Publicly judging someone as not being a Christian and/or not following Christ unless they themselves claim not be a Christian is disallowed. That's between them and the Lord. This includes judgments against collective beliefs or groups in general.

no worries - nothing like any of that intended(as we discussed , thank you).
thankfully, others likewise posted in the following posts with a similar pursuit --- yes, we can have, experience, live and practice/walk in perfect love. (as God says to , and it is written in Scripture)... just so many have never experienced let alone heard this, glad it came up ! shalom to all who love truth , Yeshua, by grace and faith in Yhwh.

This is the Bible Study forum.

Recommendations and Guidelines for an effective Bible Study Though not exhaustive, I thought it might help to better define the purpose of the Bible Study Forum, and by doing so, better assist one another with a clearer method to understanding God’s word.

Guidelines

1. Scripture is the basis of study. Stay close to the text.
2. Keep your post to a manageable length where others can respond to a section of scripture as opposed to an entire article.
3. We encourage your understanding of a text. If you wish to post snipits from a website, please make sure it accompanies your comments of the text. Excessive copy / paste from web sites are frowned upon.
4. If you disagree with an interpretation of scripture, think out your response according to the specific text and post accordingly.
5. No debating doctrines or denominational differences. (E.G. TULIP, OSAS, Purgatory, Papacy etc)

The following considerations are suggested to assist in our study of Holy Scripture. This method utilizes an instructional and comprehensive approach

1. Exegesis; Critical explanation or analysis, especially of a text. (I.E. What does the text mean?)
2. Hermeneutics; The theory and methodology of interpretation, especially of scriptural text. (I.E. How did you come to the conclusion of your Exegesis? Does it agree with the Bible as a whole?)
3. Redaction; to draw up or frame ( I.E. a statement, proclamation, etc.)

Young's Literal Translation
Mat 5:17 `Do not suppose that I came to throw down the law or the prophets--I did not come to throw down, but to fulfil;
Mat 22:36 `Teacher, which is the great command in the Law?'
Mat 22:37 And Jesus said to him, `Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thine understanding--
Mat 22:38 this is a first and great command;
Mat 22:39 and the second is like to it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself;
Mat 22:40 on these--the two commands--all the law and the prophets do hang.'

So we see that these two commandments are in the Law and all law hangs on them.
So were the sacrifices for atonement in the Law? Yes. So even they must hang on love.

How could something be accomplished and yet continue on? Certainly all things are possible with God. But I can think of something of this earth (well kind of, I believe it comes from God) music.
Bach composed music over 200 yrs. ago. He accomplished many beautiful pieces. One of my favorites is Cantata No.66. Whenever an ensemble plays and sings his compositions his music continues on through those artists even though he accomplished the finished work 200 yrs ago.

When we walk in the Spirit, loving God and our neighbor, Jesus' finished work continues on through us. Not by us but through us.
His love continues on. He blesses others through us. He edifies through us. His words, His gospel is proclaimed through us.

1Co 13:13 and now there doth remain faith, hope, love--these three; and the greatest of these is love.

So you are saying love is done, it is finished through that of Christ fulfillment. I see Christ fulfillment of his love towards us through the actions of his death and resurrection, but yet he still loves us and we are to continue in that same love just as we are to continue in his good works through that of what Christ started and we are to continue in as he works through us. I truly do not see love being fulfilled/finished until Christ returns as we need to be walking in that love until all things of this earth is finished.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your post seems to indicate that once Christ fulfills the commandment of love, love will cease to exist.
