Just talking.
There is so much to say.
Like Baptism.
Do you realize I could list at least 20 topics to discuss about Baptism?
And who would understand and agree on what?
I was a Baptist.
Don't ask me what kind or what I believed about it.
I don't think I ever knew or gave it much thought.
But people sure do like to fight about it.

Then there's the Lord's Supper.
People have all kinds of ideas about that too.
Communion.
There's about ten different communions and they all tie into the Lord's Supper.
I'm telling you, wars that start over this one.
I'll just stay away from it.

And prayer, boy, people can sure get confused about prayer.
So many ways to pray and reasons to prayers and purposes of prayer and it goes on and on and people find themselves praying for prayer because they don't know how to pray.
Whew!
You can get into a tizzy with prayer.

Then you got Holy Days.
You know, every religion has plenty of Holy Days.
People celebrate everything under the sun and call it a Holy Day.
Holy Days, Holy Wars, etc., all in the name of God.
Shall we discuss this peacefully?
Yeah, right!

How about tongues?
Do you speak in tongues?
Why not?
This is one for me.
My next thread should be a tongues thread from my point of view.
I wonder what will happen?

Hey, guess what?
I just looked outside and it's foggy out there.
It's 7:54 AM and it's foggy outside.

Okay, back to my list.

How about this one?
Compromising God's doctrine.
We face so much of that right here on the forum.
But what about out there?
People hear it in their church, and then go live their lives with this compromise.
What kinds of compromise?
What can we do about it?
Yes, a lot to talk about here.

Here's a biggie, The Great Commission.
No one does this, do they?
What are the five accounts of Christ's final words to the Apostles and why will they fail you?
Something to think about, isn't it?

Here's one we always fight about one way or another.
Faith and works.
It would be nice to get a list on this topic that all could read and agree with.
I think the answers are in Scripture.
Are we all that dumb or do I really stand alone on this?
Oh oh, there's goes the first argument.

I think I'll break here.
When I come back, I'll start a new list of stuff with a new thread.

Oh, and don't forget, I'm just talking, trying to express myself.

The Gospel message is always personal in nature.
What seems right to you is wrong for another. And where there are many ways to skin a cat the main thing is that the cat got skinless.
How it got skinned is up for discussion...but the end result is a skinned cat.

And where the method of skinning the cat by others may seem dumb or done with disinterest or disingenuous fashion.... I'm not the judge of skinned cats now am I?
And those who claim to be the final authority in skinning cats... well....just not sure what their problem is. Jesus is the final authority. Not me or them.

And to be sure....there are a ton of people who talk alot about skinning cats but they never have. They simply aren't cat Skinners. Just smile, nod your head and keep walking. You can't drink the water around the cyanide they laced it with.

How could we all be right?
Why do you think it's so difficult to agree on anything?
Did Jesus spend 3 1/2 years ministering just so we could all think whatever we want to?
How would YOU explain this? How is it possible to be able to prove any position using the bible?
Does that mean it is NOT reliable?
What IS the TRUTH?

Wondering

Do we really want to turn this thread into a debate too? :tongue

Rollo is right. We find too much to argue and fight about. Maybe we'd be better off spending more time listening to God and allowing the Holy Spirit to teach and guide us instead.
I meant to pick one subject we could DISCUSS.
Also, it is interesting to me how different theologians could come up with differing doctrine.
The answer to this is not debatable. One believes what one believes.

I think it's because Jesus and Paul were not very careful with their wording since they took for granted that they would be understood. Then the different generations of man come along and we lose sight, maybe, of the cultural and societal implications of the wording and add to it our own understanding.

I find it incredible how Jesus made everything so simple, and we make everything so complicated. Some churches have entire books to explain the bible. It seems to me that it's self-explanatory.

No debate!
:)

I disagree.
Debate :cool2

This sounds a bit like "pick a card any card" .Well how about "pick a verse any verse"? Paul seems to have taken all this into account way back when he writes "So then , each of us will give an account of himself to God."Rom.14:12 .Remember sin is being what God expects of you individually .The Greek word harmatia means missing the target or mark.So we must make sure that our ducks are in a row and not to concern ourselves with another believer's ducks.Just on baptism alone the Greek word en could mean within or with water in the context of "born of water and Spirit." Jn 3:5 N.I.V

Let's see, we have skinned cats and now ducks.
What else is being stirred up in this concoction?

This is all important to understand.
One of the worse things a Christian could do is to compare himself to other Christians.
We didn't all start out at the same time, we're not all the same, and we're not all at the exact same point on the narrow road toward the narrow gate.
The important thing is to be headed toward that gate.

What is a sin to one, may not be a sin to the other. Romans 14:22
To whom much is given, much will be expected. Luke 12:48

The cat being skinned is agape love. It is a holy/pure love above and beyond that which is common. That is the power of the Gospel message. The "method" or flavors that we all taint it with is because of a myriad of reasons that are too long for any post or book.
(I thought I was obvious)
But the way we interpret/express that love is individual...one day it will be perfect...but today isn't that day. This agape love is undefinable by nature as God is truly undefinable and because flesh is finite.
It's our one command other than to have faith in Jesus.

____There is so much to say.
Like Baptism."""
-----------

This issue is easily solved.
All you have to do is realize that water cant save you, and that you are not "saved" when you are baptized in it.
Imagine a Priest saying...."wait, dont believe in Christ yet............................wait till we baptize you".
Ridiculous, isnt it?
So, the water follows "born again".......it follows, salvation.
It does not precede salvation, nor does it create it.
You are born again by the HOLY SPIRIT, and not the city water supply in a "dunker".
Water FOLLOWS the new birth in the Spirit.........you do it AFTER you are saved.

""""How about tongues?
Do you speak in tongues?""""""
--------------------

The confusion here is not understanding that the "gift of ANOTHER tongue", = the ability to speak in a foreign language that you've not learned..., . that a "sign" Gift...= the "Gift of Tongues." or "the gift of languages".
Acts 2...."Peter spoke and they all heard in THEIR FOREIGN LANGUAGE"....as there were different languages (Jewish hearers) present that Pentecost day.
So the Doctrinal GLITCH IS........
A person's (theology) is confusing that SIGN GIFT (foreign language), with, a "prayer language"....
So, once you understand that one is a specific foreign language (Gift of the Spirit), and one is a "prayer language" that a person would speak to God in prayer, then PRESTO you are no longer confused.
Tho maybe A Pastor will never figure this out.
(Help him if you can).

""""""Here's one we always fight about one way or another.
Faith and works."""""""
-------------------

Thats easy.
You are Saved by God, when you Trust Christ....= Faith.
Then you behave in your lifestyle in a way that represents your Christianity....this is "discipleship".
So, just like Water follows Salvation but does not cause it.......Discipleship Works follow SALVATiON< but do not cause it or keep it.
Jesus keeps it for you.
"Jesus, who is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of OUR FAITH".
Thats not you...

God spoke it, the prophets and Apostles wrote it, the Holy Spirit reveals it, what more should we add to that which is already given :shrug. Discussions should never turn into a war zone between the body of Christ as we are to share with each other as we lift up and edify one another with the word of God. To each their own belief in what they share with others as each one of us will stand individually before Christ to give an account for what we have taught others. If we do not agree so be it, just give what you believe to be truth as we discuss scripture with each other as none of us could ever exhaust the word of God. :readbible
