The flip side is also true. There are a lot of people who believe but don't do the works. Satan comes to mind as the leader of the pack.

There are absolutely a lot of Christians who are asleep in the light, but they are still in the light, because redemption is not generated by what they do.
Its Given based on what Christ did.
And Satan my be their friend, but because of the application of the blood of Christ, Satan is no longer their father.

Redemption is not generated by what we do. Okay.

But would you agree that if one knows that he SHOULD be doing something, but does not do it - to him it is a sin?

Are we to be absolved of all responsibility?
Are we not responsible at all to live a life set apart?

Wondering

Exactly.
We understand that Jesus saved us, then we as "disciples of Christ" take up our cross and follow him.
Thats "James"
But what we dont do is twist this to say...."im carrying the cross of my own salvation" = keeping commandments, doing good works, enduring to the end.
So........ Right in THERE is the confusion.
Its really
the confusion caused by not understanding that Salvation is of God, and Discipleship is of us.
They are not the same.
God SAVED us, and then we do (JAMES's works) because we ARE saved.
Many however, try to combine them as "....Christ saved us and then we keep ourselves saved by....doing, doing , doing......>.
And thats the ERROR.....right there.

It's such a fine line.
Of course we do the works BECAUSE we're saved,
But they still need to be done.

I think everyone here knows we can't save ourselves or keep ourselves saved. It would be like saying we never sin - but we do. Maybe it's just a fear that people who explain works as you do, just feel they don't have to do ANYTHING. That they could become saved and then do nothing. There has to be a transformation. The tree will be known by its fruit. There has to be fruit.

If a person comes to know God, the transformation will happen. The works will follow. Why give them a "bad name"? It always sounds like your side (sorry) is saying that works are not even necessary. Maybe this is the difference... I think they're necessary.

Wondering

If that were true, i would not have 456, 678 posts to me by JLB and JBodine (and a few others) telling me that i need to work to keep myself saved, while they tell me im not teaching the truth if i say that God saved us, and Jesus did it.
Even as im writing to you, JLB is writing me all his "commandments" verses to try to prove that Redemption is based on works.

I'm not sure that will preach,

Absolutely biblically true!

There will always be Christians who are low impact and high maintenance.
The reality is, regarding soul willing, discipleship training, missionary work, .....about 2% of Christians do it.
Most just watch the cable and worry about getting more stuff.
The truth is, that if keeping salvation was hinged on discipleship effort, then hell would be a whole lot more crowded then its going to be anyway.
