Migration issues?

Since the migration to the new site I have noticed a couple of things.

I am no longer receiving e-mails from posts that I post on.
When wanting to add a picture it asks for a URL and no option to upload a picture.

Am I missing something?

Code writings and adjustments to any forum platform are expensive and time consuming.

I'd offer up the salary I received to date as a moderator to add to the pot for fixing everything and making it all pristine and smooth running but we would not be any closer to the financial requirements needed to hire someone as we are currently.

This site operates at a loss without advertisement as an offering to God. Any monies he(the owner) has received go directly to this site.

But the owner's pockets do have a bottom. He has limited funds to work with and he has just dumped a lot of money into this site. I'd dare say that he is a bit lean at the moment to pour a lot more into the site at the moment.

But you could help him... Everyone knows where the donate button is. (I'm hoping that it still works)

It does. It's time for a revisit I think. Thanks for the reminder.

If people knew the true cost of things people would know what to chip in if they can and willingly want too and people can come together, but finances are always hiden, so they either get too much or not enough, it goes in general just like a church as well.

A church either struggles or the Pastors driving a bentley.

Personal finances are understandable, but if its community it should be semi open on the basics of the finances so people don't come to a site or go to church and see the door closed saying we couldn't afford to run it where if they people knew they most probably would have kept the doors opened. So its either personal or community.

If i went to a mega church I wouldn't donate a cent because the Pastor is rich, if i went to church in a tin shed that leaked when it rains, I would give my full wage.
Well if you really want to know then do some research about prices for software platforms, prices for web hosting (approx 10-15 gig bandwidth) and then the cost of hiring programmers...

Then you can ignore your heart and apply some kind of man made system of logic to it all.

Man made system logic is letting people know what's going on. They dont need to know every detail, if its community then why not say we would like to move platforms and this will cost x amount and have a target people know where the community is at and when the goal is reached. Its just involiving everyone and not hiding things.

It never has to be about knowing every detail.

Logic, the site says there moving platforms, someone questions after some functions are not working property, and the reply was we are trying to fix it but its expensive and time consuming.

I never knew until now. No shame in asking for help in this world.

And you say I need logic?, the site says there moving platforms, someone questions some functions are not working property, and the reply was we are trying to fix it but its expensive and time consuming.

I tell you the truth, if I knew before hand the site needed to move platforms for specific reasons and couldn't afford it, I would have helped pay for it.
I've been as transparent as possible without giving you the owner's checkbook balance. (Which I don't know and really don't care to)

The man has graciously offered to allow others to share in the cost of this ministry so that others can take part.
You can either accept his offer with a prudent gift or not.

At a guess I'm thinking that a couple of thousand dollars (US) ought to fix things up for a while.

No one needs to know personal detail about anything or anyone. I was only talking basic transparent as in, when a community has a non government funded project going the people know how much its going to cost and can watch the goal being achieved as the funds grow then build.

I know nothing is free in this world and its only fair a community should help a community but they dont know what's going on how can they help?. I like contributing or helping for a reason.

John makes a good point. I believe it's to his credit that the site owner doesn't micromanage this site and insist, or press us, for more financial support. I understand the point that it would be nice to know the cost to have a better idea of what you can do, but he's not actively making everyone feel obligated. Nice to know doesn't necessarily mean "deserve" or "need" to know.

I'm not being critical of those who are asking for the information. I'm just reminding everyone that we aren't pressed or squeezed for financial support. It is a ministry. If CFnet was something else to him, rest assured you'd know it.

I migrated the site from vBullitin to xenforo and then to another host, and then back to gator at no cost to the owner.

Prior to Xenforo, When the owner migrated from phpbb to vBullitin he paid an outside service to do the work and that caused a ton of cleanup.

Anyway, the move to the new platform shouldn't have been that big of a deal and with a proper sandbox to test the migration prior to moving the site the risk is low.

I hope he didn't pay too much, and if asked I would have rendered my services at no cost.

As many know, I dropped my role as Admin on this site and went dormant after my daughter passed away to a heroin overdose.

I would have done this migration if asked.

Zero ads matters
Yes it does. He had adds in vBullitin and when I moved us to Xenforo, I asked him to trust the site with only a donate now button. He agreed and it worked. And yes, because I had access to the database, I knew exactly what he was bringing in, and I knew exactly what his costs were.

I can say this. He's not getting rich on this site by any means and the donations don't always cover his costs. He's a good man, and I hope more people on this site can remember to donate once in awhile, if for no other reason than to keep this site add free.

True, the advertising system is perverted through its greed.
Nothing is free. This site isn't free. It cost money to run it, and without money to pay the monthly hosting fee, the site goes down. Same thing for the domain name, and the software subscription.
If your not donating, you should stop and think for a moment what this site means to you. In short, don't be a free loader if you call this place your home on the net.

Thanks for all that insight, Jeff. As you know, we have no horse in the race except that we use the site like any other member. I have no reason to defend what he does with his site. But you and I spoke to him on the phone a few times. You, likely more. We've heard what this site means to him and his vision for what it could be.

But he's always left this to the volunteers and the community. For better or worse, he leaves it to "we the people" to be what CFnet is.

Yeah, he is certainly open and yes, let's the community run this. I only have good things to say about him.

If your ever near Warren about lunch, give me a call and we'll do some Thai, or I know of a really good Iraqi joint near Ryan and 15.

How many times have we said that or even that we would call each other on our drives home. I feel bad that we haven't, but you have my number too! :yes

I wasn't talking about this this site. I was talking about the advertising system. About how you can type something on any forum or browse websites and next thing there is a advertisement about it on Facebook type thing.

I looked for flights back home and then suddenly advertisement comes up cheap flights to where I want to go. Its perverted, advertising bots analilizing what people do and say on the internet. Although there not human its still a form of stalking and a violation of privacy. Advertising agencies perving on everyones data and keywords.

If i want something I will find it and i will choose myself. I dont need it shoved in my face because some company wants to make money off me. I have a functioning brain, I don't need someone or something to think for me and turn me into a braindead zombie. I can do my own research and keep the brain ticking.
