God's creation week as a master plan of seven thousand years for mankind - six thousand years for them to govern themselves, specifically, 2000 from Adam to Abraham, 2000 from Abraham to Christ, 2000 from Christ to his return, the last thousand years reigned by Christ himself in peace, hence "one day with the Lord is like a thousand years." The 120 years in Gen. 6:3 are often misunderstood as the upper limit of human life expectancy or the remaining time for Noah till the Flood, but the real secret is that these 120 years are 120 "acceptable years of the Lord", which means Jubilee year, one Jubilee cycle is every fifty years, so 120 Jubilee years are added up to 6000 years. Jesus will return on the 121st Jubilee, which Jesus himself had declared, then it will be the millennium, the final Sabbath rest where the Spirit of the Lord will no longer strive with man.

It does, though. They just interpret it as a non-literal 1,000 years in which Christ's reign is spiritual through his Church. In the amill view, we are in the millennium right now. It actually makes a fair bit of sense.
I did find this interesting topic and considered it is relevant to this CURRENT TIME. Having read some posts above I felt to share with some interpretation about the millennial kingdom, as I understand it based in biblical Chronology.
I do not worry with the divers theories about millennial kingdom, for me what matters and prevails is the Truth, GOD is the Truth. In my understanding only the Word of GOD is able to Judge what is wrong or right, if we believe in the Word of GOD, of course. The Word of GOD is from everlasting to everlasting, the Word is GOD, GOD Himself, self-executing.
That said, I agree with your conception posted that "we are in the millennium right now and, It actually makes a fair bit of sense" as you said, and mainly showed in the biblical Chronology, as follow:
Based in the Word of GOD, the source of the Truth, on GOD's six Days of creation and one Day of rest (a total of seven days) plus the Scriptures that teach that one Day is with the Lord as a thousand years (2Pet.3:8), so MANKIND, yeah, MANKIND, would go through six GOD Days of 1,000 years each (a total of 6,000 years) plus a Millennium of 1,000 years rest (now a total of 7,000 years). Actually, Genesis is a Plan of GOD to restitution or restoration of all things-Acts 3:v.17 to 26-, according they were in the garden of Eden.
That said, in accord biblical Chronology, we can number our days beginning in Genesis chapter 5, as follow:
