This can shift the ground. Some residents have long wondered if it was a good idea to cause earthquakes near an active volcano, as earthquakes can cause volcanoes to spew lava.

All the wells were drained of their fluid and capped/plugged well ahead of time in anticipation that the lava might reach them. The lava has since covered over one of the wells with no danger. Fast-moving Hawaii lava prompts evacuations, covers well on geothermal plant property
