Much Hate For The Devil

Lewis

Member
Ok people' you know how I like to keep it interesting. My question is, are we supposed to hate the devil ? Are we to forgive him ? Are we to love him, like Christ said about us loving our enemy's ? Many on this board will not even defend themselves or their families against an intruder, they say show the culprit love. So I want to know how do you guy's feel about the devil. Does he deserve the same forgiveness that we are commanded to give others ? So what say ye ?

As a person on the outside. . . . and going under the assumption that Satan is a real entity, . . . I have no reason to "hate him". As I looked for scriptures about "Satan" or "the Devil", I had to conclude that I didn't find anything there that WAS worthy of hating. It is my opinion that people do bad things just fine all by themselves.

I sayeth this to thee:

First things first: stay away from the devil—don’t let him tempt you into sinful behavior.

Once you have accomplished that, then you can decide whether or not you want to forgive him for what he has done.

Satan and the demonic side hate humans with a hatred that we cannot even understand, they hate us simply because we are like God. Whether we feel sorry for them or hate them we had good well better stay away from them as much as possible for their motivation for life is to see humans burn in agony. They do make contact with people at times but always with the purpose of being able to see the human suffer.

I would like to see scriptural backing for this statement.

Is there really A DEVIL? I know the scriptures talk about the satan, the devil, and whatnot, but the scriptures do not seem to specify if all of those references are to the same entity. We must remember that the word satan simply means adversary or opposer and is not a proper name, so when we see it used in scripture we must not be overly quick to conclude that it is referring to what we conceptualize as "The Devil."

As far as forgiving whomever or whatever the the devil is, if he were to repent I would say yes, but repentance is a precondition for forgiveness.

Yes but are you supposed to forgive the devil and love him, like you are supposed to love the lost ? And treat the devil like a backslider who like some humans has went backward. The devil was the chief worship leader in heaven at onetime. So what say ye ?

The Bible talks about redeeming mortal human beings, not fallen angels. Biblical words re. the believer's attitude to the devil include 'resist' and 'flee'.

But I hear many in the pulpit preach hate the devil, so what say ye, do you hate the devil. Does God hate the devil ?

satan is evil , correct? the father of lies. are we not to eschew evil? that word eschew means to avoid as in loathing and hate.

We are to be hating what God hates, namely sin. Forgiving the enemy of our souls is not something that is an option. Satan is the embodiment of evil. God doesn't forgive him. Satan doesn't qualify as the enemy we must forgive and love...that was pointed to people.

It is a waste of time to actively hate the devil. We have authority over him and it is our responsibility under God to use it.

I think your answer is the best one so far.

I'm just curious. What would you do with the scripture if it was presented? This seems like an odd response from someone who rejects it. I'm not taking a shot at you here, D. Honestly, I don't know why an atheist would summon scripture. :confused

To the OP, I would just say I have no "sympathy for the devil". His sole intention is to undermine the Purpose of the Lord, and he prowls the earth looking for souls to devour. He is bent on corrupting the Church from within by poisoning the hearts of men and distracting those outside it from responding to His Call. I've never been one to conclude that he is omnipresent in nature, but he has his legion of demons that serve his purpose.

I can't say that I spend much time actually "hating" Satan. I have better things to do with my energy and try to fix my heart on Christ. I do remain aware of his tactics, but I don't dwell on them.

I'm not so sure about that. Take a look at what is said in Colossians.

Look at what Colossians 1 says about Jesus.

while you thank the Father who qualified you to receive a part of the inheritance of the Holy Ones in the light. 13 He drew us to Himself from out of the power of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of the Son of His love. 14 And the ransom price that frees us from our sins has been paid through him. 15 For, he’s the image of the invisible God and the firstborn of all creation. 16 Through him everything in heaven and on the earth was created, both the things that are visible and those that are invisible. Everything has been created through him and for him, regardless of whether they are thrones, or rulerships, or governments, or powers. 17 He was before everything and everything came into existence through him. 18 He’s the head of the body of the congregation; he’s the beginning and the first one to be born from the dead, so that he would be first in everything. 19 [God] saw that it was good for him to be complete in everything, 20 and used [Jesus] to bring everything back into a good relationship with Himself, by making peace through his blood [that was shed] on the pole, regardless of whether these things are heavenly or earthly. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
