Brings back listing to Cassis Clay v.?? on the radio with dad!

I gave up watching any boxing after the trash of Holyfield and Tyson.

mma is where its at. i like boxing but a good boxer is no match for a tai boxer or a man with both tai and ground game from wrestling /bjj and or judo mixed.

and one can do mma much longer as its a different skill set.think randy coultier. aged 47 plus and just retired recently and won several ufc championships.

Boxing and MMA/martial arts are not even comparable! They are two separate arts all together. Most of those martial art guys couldn't take the punches the boxers dish out. You need to be trained to take that kind of beating and stay standing.

news flash most of the mma fighters that are pros in my gym compete in regular tai boxing tournaments and do fight in boxing.

which is more dangerous a knee to the head or uppercut to the chin. hmm i say the knee. boxing has more injurious as they allow more kos as in the ten count. not alll fighters in mma have groung game ie kimbo slice and some say the karate guy from china but he has wrestling. he prefers stand up.

I'd have to say the punch is. A properly executed punch is devastating. A knee may hurt more but a knee doesn't do the damage a punch does internally.

And thai boxing, that's like kickboxing so of course MMA guys are going to be doing that.

The guy who will survive the longest is the one who brings a gun to a boxing fight... :D

Lewis,

Thanks for sharing. I watch these fights on youtube sometimes, and it takes me back. Remember watching these championship fights live on network TV with Howard Cosell? Man, they really dug their own grave by making everything pay-per-view. Talk about a money-grab that had the worst long-term effects on a sport.

The Heavyweight Champion used to be a household name, whoever it was. Today, I'll be most people have no idea who the Champ is. This fight was among the best, if not the best ever for sure. :boxing

i disagree. i have knee throw frozen boxes way easier then a punch would and i have cracked ribs with my punches. hooks are devasting but by nature dont use the whole body when used by a newby. knees on the other hand do. you cant knee and or elbow with using your core (center) to do it. that is why i say that.

lol. i will tell my mma coach and his pro fighters that one.have you ever looked up the history of who wins when its a wrestler vs a boxer? this was tried before mma and the wrestler won every time.

There's a great documentary DVD about this fight: When We Were Kings. :thumbsup If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend finding a copy and watching( I always try the public library first). :)

Hey, I'll advocate on the side of wrestlers. It makes sense they'd win because the moment they grapple a boxer the guy is toast. He needs two legs firmly planted on the terra firma in order to deliver a blow. Punches are only strong when you put your entire body into it, otherwise it's just your arm... Arm's are not known for being good at deliver huge amounts of strength in a quick amount of time. An arm can deliver lots of strength slowly or it can be wicked quick, but not both at once.

that is why they won most of the time. sure boxer have power but to say that mma fighters lack that is just wrong. i'm sure the only mma fighter who can punch while retreating is faking those knockouts.

No, they lack the stamina/endurance to take punch after punch for a half dozen rounds. That's what I was saying.

they cant go that long as well grappling is a lot more than a boxer could take. the rounds for mma are longer. 3 minutes vs 5 minutes for pro fights and that is five rounds there. also one has to have if dominated in side control or the mount the ability to fight when breathe is short. some bjj black belts will impinge breathing by putting weight on the diaphram. hard to punch then or grapple till you get him or her off you and if its a good 50 lbs difference, you get tired quicker. i am slow and methodical that is what i do to the smaller guys. wear them down and hold them so that i dont have force anything. they get tired and give me what i want.

a boxer doesnt deal with that at all.again dont think that mma fighters werent at one time a pro boxer they do transition alot. we have them here in my gym. some fight in boxing matches and other things.they dont work but just fight.
