Name a remarkable (possibly once in a lifetime) )moment in your life.

A few years back, when I was driving to work early in the morning,I scene a meteor falling from space. The meteor looked like a ball of hot lava with a tail of fire trailing behind it,I was like, what the?????.In the next couple of seconds there was a gigantic flash, and it was total daylight for a split second at 4:30 AM.I thought, well, this is it!!!.Later in the day I learned on the news that meteor had broken up over an area east of my location in Pennsylvania.Thats mine.

I was about 22 years old and driving my motorcycle to work one foggy morning. The fog was rather dense and I was driving about 60mph. I know I should have been using a little more sense than that but you know how we are when we're young, thinking we're invincible. Anyway, as I was driving along somewhat daydreaming, I realized I had just gone past a sign indicating a left curve in the road.

I've never been one to panic in emergency situations but it always amazes me how fast my mind can process information in an emergency. I remembered that the curve sign was located rather close to the curve and since I was already driven past it, I had little time for reaction so I immediately throttled down and began to apply my brakes. There was also a gravel road that that approached that curve from the right and knowing that it would mean loose gravel on the pavement, I realized attempting that turn at high speed and applying brakes was a recipe for disaster, so I chose the next available option - to take the ditch. I'm guessing I was still moving around 50mph or so.

To my amazement I rode that bike through the ditch and back up onto the pavement before coming to a stop. After sitting on the ground in disbelief to calm my nerves for what seemed like about 20 minutes, although in reality was probable just a couple minutes, I walked back and found two skid marks in the ditch about one wheelbase apart. I had ridden the bike sideways through that ditch! I didn't even know I had that much talent.

It was fortunate that because of that gravel road, the trees were cut back far enough to give me the room I needed but had I hit a rock, a clump of grass, or soft ground I most certainly would have been catapulted off my bike into the trees and things could have been much worse. I learned to be a little more cautious after that.

Your lucky you came out the other on that one. When I think back on the dumb things I done when I was younger,on purpose or not,Whew!,it gives me the creeps.

When I was a kid there was a fifty foot wall beside our house from when they dug for coal back in the day, but never filled in the hole. I actually climbed up that wall of shell without any one knowing I did. As I climbed that wall the shell kept breaking off and the most scariest and stupid thing I ever did.

Back in the 70's I was driving with a car load of family on the back roads of south Alabama/Georgia state line . Hardly anything but trees on the flat straight dirt road I was on . All of a sudden I hear this roaring sound coming from behind me but I see nothing in the rearview mirror and I start getting unnerved now because the sound is getting LOUDER in a hurry and I still don't see anything :eek2 ! As the roaring reaches a deafening level I see a military fighter jet over take us and fly overhead very low . Fear does not even begin to describe that experience :lol .

I thought of another one. To those who know what a ratrod is in racing I had a chance to race in one from a friend that races. He drove and said he would take it easy around the track, but I told him I wanted full throttle like we were really racing. He even did a spin out around the curve and that was phenomenal.

Here's another one from me. Back in 2001, we had hired a contractor to replace the siding and roofing on our home, which we were nearly done remodeling. One day they came and stripped the old siding off our home and wrapped a house wrap around it. That night at about 4:00 in the morning, I woke up to the sound of thunder in the distance so I got up and closed windows in case it rained. I always enjoyed the sound of thundershowers. They seemed to give me a sense of tranquility. So, I was laying there listening to the storm approaching.

As usual there was the flash of lightning followed by the bang of thunder, nothing unique, until I started to notice that the thunder seemed to roll on continuously and out of sync with the lightning. Curious, I got up and looked out our bedroom window. In the light from our yard light I could see the wind picking up leaves, sticks, and dirt and whipping it across our lawn in a large arch. The trees that we planted a few years earlier were now about 10'-15' in height and laying almost horizontally. I remember thinking to myself, "What a big dust devil." Then reality hit me. I was looking at a vortex from a twister on our front lawn! I yelled to me wife, "Grab a kid and head to the basement! There's a tornado!" We each grabbed one of our two daughters and headed down two flights of stairs to take shelter.

I had never heard wind like that before in my life. It got very loud and we heard a crash. My wife said, "There goes the windows!" Water began to run down the walls of our basement and we both thought for sure that there would no longer be a house above us. I remember praying for protection for my family. The wind blew like that for just a few minutes and then things got deadly silent. I commented that it was the eye of the storm going over us. Sure enough, the wind picked up again and continued for just a few minutes and then it was over.

Turned out the crash was the contractor's scaffolding falling over. There was one large elm tree, about 2-1/2 feet in diameter that the storm twisted the top half about 180° and dropped it into the grove. Surprisingly we had no broken windows. The floors in our house had about 1/2" of water over them and that is where the water we saw running down the walls came from. It had blown the rain right through the walls that had no siding!

I jumped into the car to go check on our neighbor who lived NE of us on top of a hill, thinking they were more likely hit harder. Fortunately, they didn't get hit and there were no homes seriously damaged in our neighborhood. That's as close as I ever want to be to witnessing a tornado again.

We must endeavor to persevere,............Chief Dan George.

I was swimming across a lake with some friends once. Across the lake, there was this tree with a wooden plank of sorts and a rope you could use to swing yourself into the water. Seemed like fun at the time.

So, everybody had already swam across and they were just waiting for me. As I'm swimming, I notice there's some underwater grass of sorts under my feet. A few seconds later, I feel the district ridges of of an alligator. I knew exactly what it was, and the moment my feet touched it, I felt it move quickly away from me.

I swam as fast as I could to the other side and made it. About near crapped my pants though. XD
