Name one person, who in the last 20 years, has inspired you to want to do more for your Lord, and why.

My choice would be Rich Mullens.

I first met his music in '1988-89.
I was at that time running a Christian radio station in Pensacola, Fl.
"WPFA"
I hadn't that long been out of college (secular) at that time, having studied "communications" and "music".
This was a few years before i took seminary classes.
so.........ANYWAY....(sorry about the mini bio, for more info see my "hi im new here"...forum thingy..

We had a program that the station featured each Sunday called "Christian Countdown".
It was a Top 20 ratings weekly countdown from 20-#1 of who had out the favorite songs that the Christian community in the USA who loved "adult contemp" or "pop/rock" were listening to/buying.
It was based on "Billboard" magazine ratings, and so, i suppose it was fairly accurate.

So, one week, i think it was "Awesome God" by Rich that came out at about #13 the first week, then zipped to the top of this chart for the next 5 or 6 weeks in a row.
So, i was really taken by that song and i was able to get the CD, "Winds of Heaven, Stuff of Earth".
The cover of the CD was unpretentious which appealed to me.....just Rich and his dog sitting there smiling.
Soon, there were about 4 cuts from that CD that i put on the radio in heavy rotation, because i recognized that someone special had arrived.
Rich wrote quite a few songs for other artists who were popular at that time, including Amy Grant.
It was actually a unique period for Christian music.
Steven Curtis Chapman also arrived at that same time along with BeBe and CeCe Winans and Michael W. Smith, among others.

I suppose that it was the music of Rich that so blessed me, but it was his devotion and his faith walk that so inspired me.
I could sense on him a unique anointing that for me was very very captivating.
He had 2 other songs on the CD that i still love.
"Stand" and "Such a thing as Glory".
Both of these songs are lyrically profound.
I'll post his song "Stand" from Youtube in case you have not heard this song.

As i took a look at his life, i discovered that he had taken a vow of poverty that is very impressive, tho he did take a monthly paycheck from his royalties to support his ministry and of course so that he could eat:thumbsup

Sometimes, when im needing a bit of spiritual boost, i'll listen to his music or
maybe read an old interview and this always inspires me.
Unfortunately, He was killed in a freak auto accident way back in '97.
I miss him...
Rich, like me, was also a musician who served the Lord not only with music, but with teaching, preaching, etc..
I always appreciated the fact that he could show up at your church with his guitar and sandals and flow so well in the Spirit of God.
And if he forgot his guitar, he could sit at a piano and do the same.

So, who has inspired you this last 20 years?
anyone you'd like to share about?
Love to hear it.

point of grace from that era. or also paul wilbur. wilbur still does as he is a jew and well has been some things in that regard when need to immerse my self in my heritage of the flesh and christ.

My Dad

He was the most Christ like man i have ever met. His knowledge of the Word was astounding, a walking concordance. He lived what he preached. Shared his blessing, gave of himself. At the time of his earthly death we saw his eyes clear, saw him lift off his pillows, the glow He was meeting His King.

Nice post.
thx for sharing.

I had a similar experience when my mother passed.
I saw the light in her eyes brighten as she was leaving, then dim as she left.

(purely artistic kind of music)

I like Jerusalem Arise

shalom jerusalem and my church loves these are the days of elijah.

The Days of Elijah. I like this too.

In fact there are many options to choose from....and I virtually like all.

But I've not heard from him for long now (it's about 3 years now. Any new album?)

all i have is shalom jerusalem. he is off on some of his songs in theology. ie baruchaba beshem adonai. jesus is already reinging from the new city in heaven!

Our choir did Days of Elijah plus a few other different songs from other artists in 2006. It was during our youth convention (national). We had choir competition.

Days of Elijah and Bishop T.d. Jakes - (Lord Of All) gave us the victory. We won the award: Youth Camp 2006 Best Choir Award.

As I'm typing this message am looking at the award (close to my bed)....this great trophy.:):lol
