For sure it is Samson. This dude beat the snot out of how many men with the jaw bone of a jack ass? He killed over a thousand men blind and with his hand bound! But as renown as he is, Samson is still a human and is a deeply broken man that never stopped searching for God. He gave the remnants of his life to serve and honor Him. And he is plagued by beautiful women. He is like an ancient James Bond!

Samson is pretty awesome, but I like the part where he tied the firebrands into the tails of 300 foxes and sent them loose to set fire to the fields of the Philistines.

But I think my favorite is just the whole life story of Joseph, from his betrayal into slavery by his brothers, to his time in Egypt, to resisting temptation, being thrown into prison, interpreting pharoah's dreams, and coming into power and finally saving his family from the drought.

It's just a great story of how God uses a man and all the circumstances in his life--both good and bad--to do great works.

I have phases I go thru regarding "favorite" stories. But right now my "favorite" is when sick Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah watched the sundial go back ten degrees, since I'm into the theory and construction of sundials.

Here is a picture of sick Hezekiah placing his bed in the hot sun hopefully watching the sundial go backwards while melodramatic Isaiah points to heaven with one hand and at the sundial with the other in an authoritative manner. Frankly, the sundial looks suspiciously like a 19th century vertical British sundial. :lol

When Joseph revealed himself to his brothers.

When Hezekiah sought the Lord in prayer when King Sennacherib surrounded Jerusalem, and God's answer sent to him through Isaiah.

When Moses and the Elders met God on the mountain.

Hezekiah's Passover.

Josiah's Passover.

Solomon's decision over who the real mother of the child was.

The story of Jonah. I think this story shows how God was working for individual and group-level repentance and transformation in the OT. I think it shows a softer side of God than what many people (me, at least) think of when they think "OT God."

The story of Elijah.
<O:p</O:p

Elijah had shown great faith in God and courage by challenging, and slaughtering, the priests of Ba’al. But then, in a moment of human frailty, he became intimidated by Jezebel’s power, and fled into the wilderness. Weak and trembling in fear, Elijah was sustained in his physical strength by angels, and then he felt the presence of God, who asked of him “What are you doing here, Elijah?” There, in his time of weakness and doubt, God called Elijah to his greatest mission, raising up a generation of righteous men, the Sons of Prophets, who would be Israel’s strength in un-Godly times.

Each of us will face our Elijah moment, when we doubt our faith and fear earthly evil. And each of us will be asked, “What are you doing here?” It is then, in our moments of doubt, that we will be reminded it is not our human weakness, but God’s faithfulness and enduring strength, that forms us into instruments of His will in the world. We are not alone.

father abraham when he was told offer isaac in genesis 22. a direct reference to the cross.

when isaac redug the well his father dug. these are symbols of the three temples and the third temple is representive of what we have NOW. that is God dwelling amongst us in the flesh.

My childhood favorite was Joseph and his coat of many colors, and his brothers were jealous. I think I liked it because I had several step brothers, and felt like an outsider, even among my own brothers. The story just resonated with me at a very young age.

My next favorite story is the entire book of 1 Samuel. It's just a really neat story, all the way through. It just puts me there and it's like watching a really good movie, except it's in my head. I can hear little Samuel saying to God, "Here I am".

I've always liked the story of Daniel. He was a godly man who was unashamed to share his faith and, obviously, astounding faith and courage. The kind of pluck and devotion I wish I had.

When I was a kid, I liked it because I liked anything to do with animals (Daniel and the lion's den). Derp. =P

Also, what Mark said about the story of Elijah.
