Oy vay!

The things we quibble about!

The Bible's name or title of a person merely reflects the type of version that it was. King James spearheaded the translation into the version that it is, different in tone and structure. It is HIS version of the Bible....hence the name which reflects the type of Bible it is.

It is not worshipping anyone, nor is it blasphemous.

This has nothing to do with 'carrying around statues of Mary or Paul'. The issues are different, Thessalonian and I think this thread is a waste of time and words.

How picky do you really need to get?? For what purpose or reason?

Thanks for your opinion. There's alot of those around here.

God bless

I don't generally read the cover much. Mostly, I'm concerned with what's inside. You can call it guacamole for all I care. But is it an accurate translation of the original text?

But this is about what's inside is the point you are missing. Some claim the Bible allows us to only think about Jesus. One poster chided the Catholic perspective, quoting "noone is good except God" so we shouldn't honor men. Well if that is the case it most definitely is honoring a man, a king even to have his name on the cover of God's Holy Word. I see the radical literalists on this issue are avoiding the thread.
The Bible is full of honorable men and women. Joseph of Arimathaea (Matthew 15:43) for example. I don't see the issue. When I read a book that was written in another language, I generally think about the author, not the translator. Same with the Bible.

By Thessalonian's faulty logic, we should query the Roman Catholic translation, the Douay-Rheims.

Do they "honor" two towns?

It's not an issue for me at all. Perhaps I'll pull some quotes in from people who take such extremist views and are avoiding this thread.

... then why the thread? Why go to the effort now of "pulling" others quotes?

Is this another Spanish Inquisition?

:-D

Engage your mind. I know that's alot to ask.

Paul said:
Colossians 2:6-8 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

Thank You Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour!

:)

Paul says it well:

Paul said:
Thanksgiving and Prayer

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, 8and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:3-14

Thank You Lord Jesus Christ, we love You!

:)

... and "thank you" Vic, editor and peacemaker.

"Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God"
Matthew 5:9

Hey! Who else voted for "It's good to be King."? :-D

I speak for the King, therefore, do not pay any attention to those who must worship themselves and/or their church above Jesus Christ. :D

If your not going to be a part of a discussion on a message board but rather a monologue then you better find yourself a pulpit and don't expect me to listen to your "infallible" sermons. Peter speaks of them. This is a place for the excahnge of beliefs.

Answer the question Mr. Solo instead of posting tripe that has little to do with the thread and more to do with prejudice.

I speak for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, do not pay any attention to those who must worship themselves and/or their church above Jesus Christ. If they worship themselves, as some do the pope and Mary, over Jesus Christ ignore their tripe monologs, and if they worship their church over Jesus Christ do not fall prey to their deceptive practices. Jesus is God alone and no man on earth can substitute for him in all creation.

The Word of God will judge man, not an individual who masquerades as Jesus on earth, and no church will take the place of the body of Jesus Christ at the millennial reign of Jesus and his saints.

PS. The King James Bible has been the best translation for 400 years, and I will stick by it.

I totally thought this thread was going to be about whether it was proper to write one's name on the inside cover of one's bible.

In any case, I think it's fine. "King James" is a description of the translation. Out of curiosity, what would we rename it to?
