No Hot Water

In the long run, I wouldn't go tankless. They have huge burners on them, and in a house full of kids may or may not actually save gas. Plus, if something happens to it, 99% of homeowners wont be able to even attempt to get it going by themselves. The standard old style ones are fairly homeowner friendly. A consideration in the days to come. Not to mention that they take electric, so if the power goes out, so does the hot water.
That is nice to know.I do prefer gas over electric.

Nope.On 10 acres in the middle of........nowhere.

Ah, so you're used to cold showers?
Sometimes when I shower, I turn the heat way down just to acclimate my body for the probable cold showers in the future.

No,I don't live in a tent.I am used to warm showers.I have had a couple of guys in the past say they needed a cold shower :biggrin2

Gas is (supposed to be) cheaper than electric. But only until they raise the rates. All of these new high efficiency furnaces that they've been pushing for the last 20 years are a joke. The hype was to save money, but I don't know anyone who has cheaper bills because they keep raising the rates.

That is true.I just moved out of a home that was totally gas.It was getting expensive.

I already have a huge stack in the shed.I am mountain woman you know.
Same with my friend Elroy down the road who does all his heating and cooking with wood. A few weeks ago I had to call the cops on him and reported him for smuggling cocaine in his wood pile. Told the cops I don't know how he does it, but somehow he gets the drugs into the logs in some way that you can't see it, then sells them to his customers. The next morning I called him up and asked if the cops came by to see him. He said they showed up with 5 DEA agents all armed with axes. Chopped up every one of his logs into small fireplace sized pieces. I wished him a happy birthday and told him to enjoy the gift from me of freshly chopped firewood.

Ok, back to topic...

Yeah, I think it's nice to be able to take a cold shower. In the future, we may have to, and if people aren't used to it already...it'll be harder for them!

So who's thinking like a city kid?
If you live in the country chances are you have a well. If the power goes out the well pump doesn't work.
Better conserve what's in the lines and the few gallons in the water heater.

Can't get anything past Deb! In this case we'd just have to use the solar gravity shower then. A 55 gallon black barrel on the roof with a hose piped through to the showerhead with an isolation valve. Right?

If you lived where there was electricity or gas you were brainwashed into thinking you were in the country. I would near bet you had an inside toilet. We didn't even have a hand pump; buckets did the trick. Showers? A large wash tub did the trick heated by adding a pot full of hot water from the top of our wood burning stove. Oh, the memories I wouldn't repeat if possible. :)

This looks like the hot water heaters that my in-laws (and everyone) in Brazil use. Except they are actual electric heaters fitted right on the shower head. They are difficult to use.

Well,Tim the Toolman was here.He said it was the breaker at the tank that turned off.He reset it.It seems to be working.

Speaking of Tim the Toolman, tim_from_pa the toolman already refurbished his electric water heater. There's nothing to them. For $30 at Home Depot got two elements and thermostats kit. Emptied the water out, cleaned it the best I could, and then installed them. Worked like a new one --- for 2 months --- and then one day I smelled something like chemicals (Where's that paint smell coming from?) It wasn't paint. The insulation was burning up inside the heater and it tripped my breaker. Oh well, $30 for 2 extra months life. I had them come in and install a new one by lunch that day. Must be that China-made stuff in the kit. :lol
