Noah and the Flood

Does any one here believe that the great flood actually happened.

:-D

Well, this IS a Christian site, so most of us do believe it to be true. Not all Christians feel it was a worldwide flood though.

I found a sea shell on Mt. Whitney at aroubd 12,000 feet once....

I do not see how accepting Noah's story as historical fact has anything to do with Jesus' teachings (which is what Christianity is all about, don't forget).

I was simply wondering whether people saw the Bible stories as metaphors into the nature of man andd God. For example couldn't Noah's story simply be illustrating that God is somewhat powerfull and has a distaste for evil doers.

It was mine. I lost it during the Flood.

I guess scientists say that shells are found up that high due to glacier activity in the past but the flood is a viable explanation as well if "the whole surface of the earth is covered".

Jesus clearly referred to Noah and the flood verifying that He too believed in the flood. I guess that makes sense though as He is the One that sent the water.......

One of my favorite places to go fishing here in Utah is at Flaming Gorge. In going I pass through Vernal which boasts of dinosaurs found there. Also, on the way up the canyon there are many signs about things found there. One of them states that crocodile teeth are found in the dirt there. Now, this is in the desert, high up and very far from swamps or anything of the like. No crocodile could survive the winters we have here. Amazing dispersion the flood created.

I believe the Bible, so I believe in the global/worldwide flood that happened about 4,400 years ago.

When we are talking about the Flood, it has often regarded as the mere legend. Especially such people, who believe in theory of evolution, don't believe that the Flood has ever taken place.

But it is good to ask, is the Flood after all true. If we do practical observations of the ground and fossils and also of the traditional knowledge of people, refer them quite strongly to the Flood. They indicate that large group devastation has taken place in the immediate past. On the following lines we are going to examine these evidences, which refer to the Flood.

If the bible can be considered wrong on one point it can be considered fallable on all. Hence all the assaults by the athiests, et al...

2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

If someone considers themselves a christian and yet questions the bibles' authority, that person has some serious soul searching to do. If the bible is just a bunch of fairy tails with which we can pick and choose what we accept, we are on a very slippery slope.

In Christ

The Flood applies to Christ.

He is the door of the ark. The ark is salvation. Those who enter in through the only door will be saved. All things in Scripture are telling of Christ. To reject them, and their prophetic pictures, is to reject Christ. All Scripture is the Gospel. Blessings.

A global flood is not supported by science. If there were one, we would expect Grand Canyons coverying the world and without rivers running down them. We would expect the dinosaur bones to be mixed with other animal bones. Maybe heavy bones on bottom followed by lighter bones further up, but that is not the case.

There is a very good case for some local floods as the Earth warmed. Glacial melting could produce a local flood. The Baltic Sea also seemed to flood once sea levels rose enough.

Flooding is a common event, so we do get some flood stories from the myths of people around the world. But it is always different circumstances. Places that do not flood, have no flood story like the Egyptians.

It was a world wide flood.

"Were the flood waters solely caused by rain, or something more? How could there be enough water to cover all the mountains? Was there a vapour canopy? What about catastrophic plate tectonics?"

Best post of the thread, so far.

Lovely, that is the ONLY viable answer i can get from a christian.

It actually sorta works.

Science cannot explain it. THe ark has never been found. The dimmensions of the ark are impossible.

It can't be a worldwide flood, because it is impossible to put animals on an ark, that would have to be incredibly huge.

Not to mention, I would think alot of christians wouldnt truly believe it, because, why would god just be like, "hey suckers, your sinners, so im drownding you, because I am a loving forgiving god. Wait, i just contradicted myself. woops, I guess ill just drowned all those that figured it out, yet, somehow let peopel know about it and write the story!"

You need to do some more research. The ark has been found. The dimensions are possible and it would fit the animals it needed to fit. Not an issue here at all.

And as for the rest of your post. You need to show some respect for God while you are on this board. You do not have to have respect for Him and you can feel any way you wish but you will not be allowed to disrespect Him on the threads. If you cannot manage that, then you might need to consider going somewhere else. This is not the first time you have been warned about being disrespectful to the Lord in here either. I am hoping this is the last.

I find the story is full of plot holes and overflowing with a plethora of miracles.

1. God is faced with a wicked world. What does He do? In OT, He killes just about everyone. In NT, He sends His son to die. Seems contrary to me.

2. God picked an alcoholic to restart humanity.

3. God forces incest upon this family.

4. Not enough water on Earth to flood it. God would have to create water and then make it disappear afterwards.

5. The ark could not hold two of every kind of animal. Even if you just hold two of every species, you are talking about 4 million to 200 million animals.

6. Go to a zoo with just a few species and see how many people it takes to feed, water and clean the animals. Could one family do that? So God must have turned off the digestion system and extended the life of some short lived animals.

7. Why does God even want the animals dead in the first place? They were not wicked? Why not just kill the humans and spare the animals?

8. Why does God have to drown babies and children? Excessively cruel. Why not just make everyone die peacefully in their sleep?

9. If you ever tried to keep up an aquarium, it is hard to keep everything balanced. Many fish can't handle different types of water. So a huge flood that covers the earth would put fresh water and salt water fish in the same enviornment. That should have killed most fish species.

10. The vast majority of our atmosphere should have been pushed into space if the whole Earth was flooded. God would have had to put that firmament back into place.

11. How did the Kangeroos get to Australia? Were plate techtonics moving at speeds like a motor boat or did God just make them swim?

12. The Earth should have been devistated by a flood. Salt from seas would have messed up fertile grounds. So God would have had to clean it all up.

13. Rain would be falling at about 30 feet per hour. That should have eroded the whole Earth and left scars everywhere.

14. The end result was that mankind was just as wicked afterwards as before.

15. God could have made everyone infertile except Noah's family. Wow. No death and suffering.

16. God could have moved Noah to a new planet to start over. There seems to be many available.

So the story is that God killed a lot of people and animals in a painful manner for no real gain except to show that God can be really mean when He wants to.
