Not forgiving your brother.

QUOTE: justbyfaith: yet I think that if someone will not forgive his brother, the Father will not forgive him and this may indeed be what is spoken of here:

RESPONSE: If God didn't or doesn't forgive him if he doesn't forgive his or her brother then the cross accomplished nothing. We are already forgiven for all our sin. Any sin not forgiven by God would have kept Jesus in the grave.

Just take some scissors and cut Matthew 6:14-15 out of your Bible, then.

I would warn you, however, that to do with scissors what you have already done in your heart, may have severe consequences (Revelation 22:18-19).

I would say that God is not constrained to forgive you because of the Cross. If you do things contrary to what He says are necessary for forgiveness, then you forfeit what He did for you on the Cross.

1Pe 1:17, And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
1Pe 1:18, Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19, But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

This forgiveness has to do with relationship not salvation.

Then if we are forgiven at the cross and all our sins are atoned, what is it that if we don't forgive our brethren their trespasses against us God won't forgive us?
Just wondering.
See John 20:22-23.

Also Matthew 6:14-15.

If we have the Holy Ghost and do not forgive, those whom we do not forgive are not forgiven.

And likewise, if we do not display a lifestyle that exemplifies forgiving our brothers and sisters, it signifies that we are not appropriating what Jesus did for us on the Cross.

Forgiveness is tied to the atonement. Forgiveness is tied to propitiation.
Do you understand these terms?

The atonement has to do with the mercy seat in the temple and it means reconciliation between God and man.

Propitiation has to do with the appeasing the wrath of God through the propitiatory sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross.

You assume that being forgiven as an unbeliever coming to Christ is the same for christains once theyve become believers... since our salvation is based on Gods forgivness of our sins thru Christ... then ofcourse when it is said that you wont be forgiven by the Father if you dont ALSO forgive as the Father forgave you... you're unforgiven

Matt 6:14 if you forgive others of their sins your Father in heaven will also forgive you...

So jeremiah1five what happens if you dont?

Mark 11:25-26
If your praying you should forgive others that your Father in heaven may ALSO forgive you.... if you do not forgive others your Father wont forgive you
