If running the governments ever returned to the concept of for the Common Good, I should dance in the street. However the Government would first return to it's purpose, as defined by the Founding Fathers in their writings, that being to protect the people, very small government.

IIRC, California estimated $400b cost, spread that among a 40m population......that comes out to $10,000 for every man, woman and child in the state. Can you imagine a family of 4 paying $40,000/yr for healthcare?.....actually more since you can't tax the income of a person who is unemployed, or in the country illegally.......

Social security is broke.it will be unable to pay its recipients when in 16 years fully 70 percent. So tax those more to keep it? If you are making more then the bracket you are in at retirement you pay even while collecting!mom and dad owe each year ! My mom had a great union job and retired and collects and works part time as she must.dad's health issues cost.

Maybe if your IQ is under about 75 you should have a government appointed care taker decide what healthcare is right for you. Otherwise, it is a question of individual freedom and liberty for which we fought a revolution to insure.

If Trump has his way and cuts the rest of the cu do g off, it is reported that premiums will rise another 20 percent.

What about your fire department?
Did you go to public school? Or do you have kids that do or did attend public school?

Or, would you rather we privatize these and only those who pay into those services are allowed to reap their benefits?

As far as becoming a Democrat, in ways they sound more like the Republican party I once belonged to.
