One more question about Hell: if consigned there, does one spend all of eternity alone in utter pitch black darkness?

Literally to never see the light of day EVER AGAIN?!?!

What a most terrifying thought. And I thought being set ablaze on fire in unimaginable pain for every second of every day, of every week, of every month of every year for all eternity was bad enough.

But to spend ALL OF ETERNITY all by yourself in utter pitch black darkness?!?!? And you're conscious of it all the entire time.

Why, God, why? Why did You create me? Why didn't you just leave me in nothingness?

Those pictures have been given to make us aware of how serious it is. I know that God's powerful, comforting presence won't be there. And all of the things and people that those residents depended upon as their idols won't be available there. That's the picture I get from the passages, especially from Matthew and Revelation.

The Jews equated the term Gehenna with Hell because Molech worship went on there, where they burned their children in the fire to him. So there was a natural parallel to the torments of Hell. Demon worship plus human souls burning in the fire = Hell.

One of the men with whom I worked in a boatyard back in the decade of the 1970s
said he won't mind Hell all that much because he'll have lots of friends there, but I
can't help but wonder if he'll be able to find any of them because Jesus said the
majority has been ending up down there.

Well, souls have been filtering into perdition not only the past 2,000 years since
Christ, but also since before the Step Pyramid of Djoser, and even before the Flood
and the Tower of Babel.

I won't speculate how many years have gone by since Cain and Abel, but I've heard it's
at the very least something like 6,000 years. If the majority really has been on the road
to destruction like Jesus said: then sixty centuries would amount to a very large number
of souls to search for that man's friends.

I suppose one good thing that can be said about Hell is that it's the ultimate equalizer.
For example:

Isa 14:12-17 . . For you said to yourself: I will ascend to heaven and set my
throne above God's stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the
north. I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.

. . But instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its
lowest depths. Everyone there will stare at you and ask: Can this be the one who
shook the earth and the kingdoms of the world? Is this the one who destroyed the
land and made it into a wilderness? Is this the king who demolished the world's
greatest cities and had no mercy on his captives?

In context; that passage targets an ancient Babylonian king, but serves to illustrate
an important point: Hell is a level field. Look around you at the celebrities, the
socialites, the news anchors, the politicians, the stock brokers, the empire builders,
the financial giants, the television moguls, the movie-makers, the civic leaders, the
entrepreneurs, the fashion leaders, the intellectuals, the best-sellers, the Rock and
Roll Hall of Famers, the Olympic stars and professional athletes, the winners of
Oscar, Tony and Grammy awards. In Hell, those kinds of people are just one more
insignificant skull in an ever-growing population of losers.

And many of them made their self-centered beds and will have to lie in them, very sadly!

My eldest brother was a Catholic Priest +/- 53 years before passing away as a
semi-retired Friar back in 2018.

I was brought up as a Catholic myself so I know from experience that although it is
a beautiful religion, it isn't easy to obtain Heaven that way. So I sometimes wonder
if my brother made it to safety as I imagine Hell would be a very difficult
adjustment for him because he would surely be mocked cruelly and without pity by
some of the ugly folks imprisoned in the netherworld. I can just hear their giggling
and their taunts:

Hey Christian! How's about sharing the gospel with us ay? Tell us about the love of
God and how that's working for ya. Awwwww-Haw-Haw-Haw-Hawwwwwwwww!

I'd rather end up in perdition as a serial killer than a failed priest because no doubt
murderers are given more respect down there than a man of the cloth.

the torments of Hell come long before anyone is put there. face it ,you are going to die and that's the part you hate the most .your dead body will be put in a box, a hole will be dug then the box will be lowered into the hole and filled in. you know all that long before your death happens .you don't want it to happen and it drives you nuts that its going to happen all because dead means dead.
Psalm 146:4 states, "His breath goes out, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish,"
essentially meaning that when a person dies, they return to the ground and their earthly plans and thoughts come to an end,

there is something that the living should have knowledge of before they will die.
the resurrection of the dead its a promise made to the righteous and the unrighteous
