Online Minister

Wait, bear with me a sec. :wink Has anyone done something like this? Here's my thinking: if I could obtain a ministerial ordination, it could serve as a lead-in for talking to people about God. "So what do you do in your spare time?" "Oh, I'm a freelance ordained Christian minister." "What does that involve?" "I just talk to people about God. For instance, did you know...."

Is this a really dumb idea (would not be my first)? If not, what are the pitfalls? Are those online ordination sites genuine? Any recommendations, or ones to avoid? Costs?

You can go back to laughing at me. :lol

Preach the Gospel at all times.
If necessary, use words.

the quick papers of ordination cheapen the title or job or responsibility ( how ever the wording suits ya) of being a minister ...

A man called the head of a Bible School where I was teaching wanting ordination papers. He explained that he had bought a church building and wanted to have a "retirement business." We declined but anyone can get papers on line even people like, oh, I don't know, maybe like "Reverend" Al Sharpton ot the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson.

Well, that is the inherent downside. The problem is I don't currently belong to a brick-and-mortar congregation (I was an assoc. Minister in a previous church). I feel I have limited options at the moment. I'm just trying to think does this help or hinder the work of God. I could always just try it and discontinue if it doesn't work out. If it saves a single soul...

You need to belong to a congregation or, more specifically, have a spiritual covering to whom you are submitted for guidance and instruction.

But don't be surprised if that "spiritual covering" gets jealous of intimidated when you start having success and he starts worrying if you're going to outshine him or start your own church and take check-writers from his pews. Make sure your "spiritual covering" isn't running a family business disguised as a church.

Pray a lot and do what God tells you. I don't think Smith WIgglesworth was ordained. (I don't know)

It'll never be about money. I'm just looking for a lead-in (an "excuse", if you will) for bringing up the subject of God. I feel that God did tell me to think about doing something like this. Could be wrong.

AH! The "10 second elevator pitch."

You don't need one and you'll sound like a salesman if you get one.

Here's what you do: Don't leave the house unless you have spent AT LEAST 3 hours in prayer. (If you pray in tongues, do so.)

Then let the Holy Spirit speak through you. You won't need a lead-in.

If you have a seminary degree...

Then it really isn't an issue.
You were an ordained and a seated minister.
Most pastors (associate or lead) don't make it over 2 years at any church.

So it's really not an issue

Why do you need a lead in? You already have one, your faith in Jesus. Granted people are more likely to listen If you say "I'm an ordained Christian minister" only because they feel they have to.

You have already been ordained, by Christ himself. So you don't need paperwork, no money spent. When someone asks you what you do in your spare time you can genuinely say "I am a minister of Christ, do you know what?

Personally I say something along the lines when asked "Went to to church on Sunday, lead a community group during the week, went to a prayer meeting"

BTW, if your dumb ideas outdo my dumb ideas then maybe we can get together and be Dumb & Dumber.

Believe me, for some of these people, a lead-in doesn't hurt.

As an inventor, I learned not to be afraid of dumb ideas. 13 years ago I had a really dumb idea. We should cross over $1 million in sales this year.

Hope I did not cause offence, never meant to and sorry if I did.
Glad your idea worked, obviously not that dumb.

I'm not comfortable with online ordinations. I know a friend who found one in highschool for a church base that sounded like it wasn't really a church of any religion, just a way to get ordained regardless of a person's religion or spiritual beliefs. He took it, got ordained and I think thinks well of it sometimes, but I really don't like it.

That said collages, have online classes. Some of which lead to college degrees and are accredited courses. There's probabley something simular for seminary colleges. So while I know I shouldn't be too quick to judge, I'm not comfortable with online ordinations. You can be ordained and recoginized by the state, without being Christian. (Or those who aren't ordained in a Christian church site, they don't actually have to be of the religion or philosophy they are being ordained under.)

If God is in it, there's no need for paperwork. Spirit filled people are ministers everywhere they go.

Correct! But how do I know it wasn't God that planted this idea in my head?

you will know .its the still small voice . when God called me yes i had been wanting to .but had no idea about if thats what i should do. the call of GOD is very clear one will know if it is of him. when i told other preachers i was called they said they knew i was. here is a rule of thumb go by. if you can keep from doing it your not called. if you can,t keep from it and its like fire in your bones odds are its of Good there is a burning zeal that will drive you. you will know i can,t tell you.
