open church

I probably would like a mega church. Lots of people and loud music. Not sure I would learn the gospel there, but then I read the scriptures to keep me in focus so its all good. I have never said there are not saved people in mega churches, but I'm sure many are there seeking truth and only get the Jesus loves you and God is great speech.

The last Church we went to I use to count the offering and make out the deposit for the bank. Our books were always opened for anyone to look at if they wanted to. We did this as the Church we all attended before starting that one hid their books as most of the money was lining some pockets and that Church eventually went bankrupt and closed its doors. I know we are to give from a joyful heart of giving and should never have to wonder what the money is used for, but in that case of the other Church we never hid anything from the congregation.

So why did you stop going?

Since the right to private ownership of corporations and private individuals is highly suspect these days....

Basically most cities wish to take possession of First Baptist churches and other prime real estate in downtown areas and convert them into shopping malls and venues...and the Supreme Court is allowing it...many are selling their property to private individuals and getting a no cost lease in return.

It's a legal loophole that will provide some protection against the Government from seizing the assets of a church.

And in this current government climate it's going to be necessary.

(For those in positions to do something about this...your average pew warmer won't understand what I'm referring to...of course seek legal counsel to see how this can be done in your area)

People are suppose to give by check 10%.
If you give the expected 10% by check, they give you a legal statement back that you can use with the IRS.
Everyone knows how much you give, probably better than you do.
Everyone knows how much you make as well and they are able to judge you according to your income.
Where'd you hear all that, Al?

That would be telling...
OK. Well I'm an Electrician in this area...and top notch electricians make $25-30/hr....
Mathematics ain't for a special few....they even teach multiplication in public school.
We know how much your average Dentist makes...or pharmacist or whatever.

It's called common knowledge.

So...Mr. Whomever, glad to meet you. My name is John. Tell me about yourself. What do you do for a living?

And the game continues on.

Long story short the people in that other church knew nothing of what was going on as the Pastor decided to move away saying he was going to start another church in another state. Many from that congregation started coming to the Church we started with a new Pastor and then that other Pastor came back and we lost most of the congregation. Due to lack of offerings the Pastor was footing all the bills which left his family in dire straights and we on the board decided to close the Church in the building we were renting and started home Bible studies with our Pastor leading them. Due to him having to find a job to support his family and there only being five of us left that started with at least twenty the home studies ended due to lack of of attendance as it was only the Pastor, his wife, me and my husband and one other lady who also attended another Church and could not find enough time to attend the studies so in all reality there were only four of us left.

Since this thread is about giving...

I worked at the church today. Our AV team needed some cable pulled.

All total of about 6 hrs of Labor.
They bought me lunch.

But if I was to really bill them it would be around $500+ for the work at customary commercial rates.

But I have a non-profit that I founded which gives away the work like this...so I don't charge them a thing.

Now I know that God credits me for the efforts. Others do similar things with their efforts. I consider this bill paid by Jesus with more work owed.

But....
What about taxes?
Is it tax deductible? Think I will see it on my tax returns? Think the church will send me a yearly notice of giving? (I know the answer to this)

Most regular givers use checks or giving envelopes that identify them. Unaccounted for bills and coins are counted as "loose plate" offerings and not attributed to any individual.

Here in Australia there is no need for anyone to identify what they give by association with a person's name. That's because no gifts to the local church are tax deductible. All giving can be done anonymously. My church provides offering envelopes in which to put money but there is no identification on the envelope.

No, I live in the United States and that gives me enough to worry about. But Kiwi explained what he meant and I understand what he meant now.

I don't live in China either, but I know that there are registered and unregistered churches in China.
