parenting and well not teaching them all they deserve

i am being a dad to my "son" nathan.most of the times he listens to me and doesnt talk back etc.

unless its chores then i get the aw man. i have noticed that he can remember any mma technique taught and yet with a simple weed eater use i had to repeat my self a lot. he has that same problem i do. if i aint interested in it i tend not to care for it. he does that with school ,love english and hates math and science. i am the opposite but i forced my self to learn and better myself in english. though i all but lost that.:lol:bigfrown

that said he has bonding with me and well tried to wrestle me with a take down and i defended myself agaisnt that without hurting him, that is why i wanted him to do mma as well any dad will always remember that or those days of wrestling with their sons.

i didnt get that with my dad, and my parents didnt teach me or my siblings much on things we were ill prepared for the real world and this has cause both me and my brother and my sister anger issues.

i have vented at my dad mainly and called him useless in a manner of words.i have forgiven him and he and mom arent like they used to be. that said, i want to give all that i can for nathan and his sister while i can. monica may marry and another man will be their father(though both biological fathers are alive just dont care for their children:grumpy)

advise??

If I ever feel that a child needs some focus time on them then I ask myself what they like and what is relevant to them and suggest doing something along those lines with them (even if it doesn't have much meaning to me other than being a bonding exercise). I try to show interest in what they are interested in and who they are individually.

As far as what they need to know - things like cooking - sometimes they get told to do it even if they don't want to just because it's an important life skill. Joining them and cooking alongside them can be one way to make it more positive.

The goal with all this is building relationship with them so that when it matters they feel they can come to us with struggles and for advice. So far it seems to work. I'm not sure if that's what you were after?

Keep on keeping on brother. There is a new movie out http://www.courageousthemovie.com/

I think we all have issue with our parents, and guess what? Our kids will take issue with us, about what we did or did not do, but our job is to leave the best legacy we can with the help of God, Sounds to me like you'er doing that.

You don't need advice, just encouragement. :clap God will give you the advice.

It all sounds normal to me Jason. Keep explaining the weed eater over and over for ever and ever.... Not liking math matches not liking the small machines...

I lke this part it makes me look good! :yes

One thing that is very effective with my kids is the good old "work before play" maxim. In your case, "weed eating before mma".

Far and beyond learning to take on responsibilities through doing chores or having fun with "dad" via mma or whatever, what this young man is gaining is the love and care of a man in his life, something he so sorely needs, even if another guy comes along in his mom's life.

Hang in there!

i can accept that. we are imperfect. in my days of anger and a sinnin i told my dad off and didnt talk to my grandpa for years. i reconciled with both. grandpa died 2000 and i got it right with him in 1998 when uncle steve died.

well he has an anger issue and his mother took so far one day of mma way away.he slammed the door and broke her favorite cup all over being told to whatever my wife said he should do.
