Eleven footballs the New England Patriots brought to Sunday's AFC championship game have now been determined by the NFL to be under-inflated – by 2 full pounds – according to ESPN, which cited the preliminary findings of a league investigation.

This will get pretty ugly. There have already been reports that people want the Patriots disqualified from the SuperBowl.

I do have to wonder, though, aside from the obvious affect this might have on kicking field goals, what benefit could the Patriots possibly see from footballs that are under-inflated by a measly 2 pounds?

The video in the link was saying it makes the balls easier to hang onto. But not being real knowledgeable on this, I have to wonder, wouldn't that be an equal advantage to both teams? Or does each side play with their own balls? Can't say I ever paid attention to that before.

Found this on NFL.com.

Section 2
BALL SUPPLY
Each team will make 12 primary balls available for testing by the Referee two hours and 15 minutes prior to the starting time of the game to meet League requirements. The home team will also make 12 backup balls available for testing in all stadiums. In addition, the visitors, at their discretion, may bring 12 backup balls to be tested by the Referee for games held in outdoor stadiums. For all games, eight new footballs, sealed in a special box and shipped by the manufacturer to the Referee, will be opened in the officials’ locker room two hours and 15 minutes prior to the starting time of the game. These balls are to be specially marked by the Referee and used exclusively for the kicking game.
In the event a home team ball does not conform to specifications, or its supply is exhausted, the Referee shall secure a proper ball from the visitors and, failing that, use the best available ball. Any such circumstances must be reported to the Commissioner.
In case of rain or a wet, muddy, or slippery field, a playable ball shall be used at the request of the offensive team’s center. The Game Clock shall not stop for such action (unless undue delay occurs).
Note: It is the responsibility of the home team to furnish playable balls at all times by attendants from either side of the playing
field.

I personally hope they DO NOT get disqualified from the SB, because the Seahawks or going to kick their..........

That's right, they are going down, no messin' around with the Hawks! :biggrin2

Tom Brady is 2nd to Montana as the all time best quarterback, makes you wonder if that is legitimate too, doesn't sound like it.

I would think that if the Patriots are disqualified from the super bowl they would allow the Colts to play in their stead. Though, this would mean the Seahawks would be the favorite to win, which is something nobody wants. ;-)

Yeah they can.

I do have to wonder, though, if Richard Sherman will play in the big game. Do we know what actually happened to his arm?

I suppose the Hawks could tone it down for pretty boy Brady - but why? lol

He has a sprain and will play, he played with the sprain already. They'll give him one of those shots that take away pain - maybe?

The Hawks are good but I don't like them they are a Philadelphia enemy like the Dallas Cowboys. I wanted Green Bay to put them in their place this past Sunday. I don't like New England as well, but I want them to beat the Sea Hawks
