God killed it once already . According to scripture blood , water , or fire are needed for purification . Hebrews 9 : 16 - 22 Numbers 31 : 23 ... everything that can endure fire , you shall put through the fire , and it shall be clean ; and it shall be purified with the water of purification . But all that cannot endure fire you shall put through water God used water in the time of Noah to cleanse the earth . Killing all life except for the remnant on the Ark . The first " earth killing. 2 Peter 3 : 3 - 7 ...knowing this first : that scoffers will come in the last days , walking according to their own lusts , and saying " Where is the promise of His coming ? For since the fathers fell asleep , all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation . " For this they willfully forget : that by the word of God the heavens were of old , and the earth standing out of water and in the water , by which the world that then existed PERISHED , being flooded with water . But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word , are reserved for FIRE until the day of judgement and perdition of ungodly men . The next time God " kills the earth " it will be by fire . 2 Peter 3 : 10 - 13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night , in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise , and the elements will melt with a fervent heat ; both the EARTH and the works that are in it will be BURNED UP . Therefore , since all these things will be DISSOLVED, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness , looking for and HASTENING the coming of the day of God , because of which the heavens will be DISSOLVED , being on fire , and the ELEMENTS will MELT with FERVENT HEAT ? Nevertheless we according to His promise , look for NEW HEAVENS and a NEW EARTH in which righteousness dwells . Matthew 24 : 32 - 35 " Now learn this parable from the fig tree : When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves , you know that summer is near . So you also ,when you see all these things , know that it is near - AT THE DOORS ! Assuredly I say to you , THIS generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place . HEAVEN and EARTH will PASS AWAY , but My words will by no means pass away ." This is repeated in Mark and Luke thereby establishing it . Psalm 102 : 25 - 26 Of old You laid the foundation of the earth , And the heavens are the work of Your hands . They will PERISH but you will endure :Yes , they will grow old like a garment ; Like a cloak You will CHANGE them , And they will be CHANGED . Revelation 21 : 1 Now I saw a NEW HEAVEN and a NEW EARTH , for the FIRST HEAVEN and the FIRST EARTH had PASSED AWAY . Also there was no more sea .
