So if a child who was born into a christian family and never knew anything but Christianity died, he would not be in heaven due to not technically being a christian?

It's best to refer back to these words of the Lord Jesus in John 3.7.

LOL ... I'll listen to everything from Statler Brothers for the outstanding 4 part harmonies ... to Red/Disciple/Skillet for the I need to shout moments ... and sometimes I'll listen to the likes of LaCrae. And then everything in between.

This sounds just like me... I listen to Bach (classical), MercyMe (alternative), Red (rock), LeCrae (rap), and just about everything in between. If music has good lyrics and a good sound than I'm there. :) Currently I'm really hooked on the song "Hold Me Now" by Red... at least for the time being. :)

Lexy: Ty. I must listen to that Red track that you mentioned. Some of what I've heard from Red is really excellent, Christian hard rock.

Blessings.

As someone else said, Music is a tool and there are many tools in the musical drawer. There are soft sweet songs, there are loud angry songs, there are intense vocal harmonies, there are sweet innocent voiced solos ... all to fit the mood and the message to be shared.

faeriecat:

Thank-you for your perspective! In some ways, the bold lyrics of the Christian hard rock genre remind me of the great span of thoughts and emotions that the Psalmist expresses, if this makes sense.

I see you like Red, too!

Blessings.

PS: Actually, Lexy, there is probably a stylistic or rhythmic link between Bach counterpoint and hard rock. Interesting you like Red as well as Bach!

Blessings.

That is a good point, Farouk... Maybe I'll have to do some comparisons as an experiment. :)

Lexy: Yes, well, there is something very invigorating and vigorous about Christian hard rock, for example; as in Red's Forever; and even in Red's Release the Panic and Red's Glass House. And then of course Bach's counterpoint pieces are both sublimely controlled and rigorous.

It's kind of superficial that while Bach might be played by men in tuxedos or women in floppy, off the shoulder dresses, Red's style is more bluejeans, leather and tattoos. Muscially, though, they are similarities. Both have strong, Christian influences, also.

Blessings.

Yeah, it's definitely interesting how different types of music are connected and you can find that connection if you take the time to really pay attention to them.

Lexy:

Yes, I know what you mean; I keep listening to Red, particular tracks over and over. Like you say, you kind of get hooked, right? (A bit like tattoos! or their musical equivalent.) Blessings to you and your family.

Depends on how hard it is. If it leans more towards metal, in my perspective, it sounds like it's tearing the message apart. I'm not saying that it's absolute, just saying that's the vibes I get from metal. If it's more like Hillsong, it's easier to listen to.

I listened to "psychedelic" christian music (look up I've Been Walking by Earthen Vessel), but after I actually did psychedelics and fell into the deception of pharmakiea my whole perspective on music changed.

I think you also have to be more careful when listening to rock. It seems like there's a higher chance of getting a perverted gospel. For example Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum seems Christian at first glance, but the lyrics say "I'm not a sinner, I never sinned" when clearly everyone has sinned. Now that's just the mainstream pop rock music.

But there's also this guy.

The actual thing is about 7 or 8 parts maybe, and can be found here on YouTube
I don't agree with everything he says, but he has some truth in this one clip. If you researched the occult, you'd see that there is a lot of it in mainstream music that isn't rock as well.

There are no rules on how you should worship the YHWH and Jesus with music, however you should be careful about what's in the music. Be sure that they are scriptually sound.

Though there is something this video has me interested into what "syncopation" is, which I want to look into, though it's probably an over-zealous theory as this page says http://faithfulwordbaptist.org/ccm.html

questdriven:

Do you know much about Stryper? they are a professedly Christian band that has an especially raw and elemental style, I guess you would say.

Blessings.

Not much. Never heard any of their songs. Suppose I should look some up.

I'm not necessarily 'recommending' them; I guess it's fair to say they are very much an acquired taste and some of the circles they move in would be described as borderline/cutting edge, so to speak. Whereas a band such as Casting Crowns, though not hard rock, would be seen as a more, wholesome, family church type of group.

Blessings.

I just dug through my dusty old case of cassette tapes and there it was: Stryper's "To Hell with the Devil" tape. Been a long time since I listened to that one :)

Oh no here we go again.. that's like arguing white lies white witchcraft good spells evil spells or voting for the lesser of two evils. Don't you guys remember who used to be in charge of the heavenly instrument section or stop to think he just might influence these groups or do you think being Christians he leaves them alone? Oh while were at it don't forget this is the same world that nailed our Saviour to that tree..

People all have their tastes and preferences, often subjective.

Re. the lyrics of Christian rock, some of them are rather bold and a good testimony. I guess many Christians would agree that it's the lyrics that really count.
