Sounds like something conjured up by MTV.
I pierced my ears when I was 16. It didn't help my self image at all.
My dad did help me out of them as soon as he noticed though.

I guess your dad didn't wear earrings himself, then. A lot of dads do, of course, (and it's kind of likely that their sons may want to wear them as well). Lots of moms have at least 2 in each ear and so find it hard to deny a teen son even 1 stud in one ear, I guess.

... It can easily happen with many other things, so why not piercings?

Nick:

Well, I guess there are piercings and piercings.

Ear piercing is really pretty mainstream. For girls. And boys.

farouk are your ear pierced? ya know this may sound legalistic but oh well.(its not a salvinic issue). i dont think we christian should look like the world. its one thing if you come to christ and this is the way that you are. But isnt the body you have the temple of christ. would the temple of the ot be allowed to have graffiti? i seriously doubt it.

just sayin.i mean, if you are an attractive women and want a tramp stamp. How else are you going to show said christian brother that tat and for him not to lust.:shrug or piercings of the genatalia or the belly button.

Leviticus 19:28 (Amplified) which says, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord."

I think as Christians we are to be humble in appearance although I had my ears pierced long ago before my belief in Christ I often thought of a tatoo but for some reason never got one and now personally I find them really unattractive on both men and women but women who have so many I just don't get it.:shame

I wasn't born with ear piercings, God made my ears to hear, man was made in the image of God, i dont see why people need them, i know that primitive natives in certain parts of the world had them as part of there culture. Do we want to be like them? These evolutionists might think we are evolving, but ear piercings mean some might be going backwards. :lol

Maybe in some it does, in others it may not affect them at all and in others it may have the opposite effect. This alll depends on the person, the society and the people they hang around.

I have to agree. I think perhaps for some it might give them a confidence boost and therefore make them less shy. It does depend on society and the people around them.

Now, I am not a boy, but I get a bit of a confidence boost from piercings. I have no idea why that happens. I never got them to feel better about myself, but just because it was something I liked. I am still shy, as I have been since I can remember.

Perhaps if a young boy gets an ear piercing he will feel part of the "in crowd" or maybe a little better than someone with no piercings and have more self confidence. I remember when I was about 11, I just got my first earrings and I felt like I was on top of the world... haha. :D

I suppose they just make you feel "cool" when you are young.

Nicole:

The truly liberating thing is by faith to know one's conscience purged by the blood of Christ, who, through the eternal Spirit, offered Himself without spot to God (Hebrews chapter 9).

...I get a bit of a confidence boost from piercings. ... it was something I liked. ...

But, yes, from a more general and subjective point of view it can be nice, and, for some ppl, confidence-building, I suppose.

Well, this is an old thread I started a long time ago, and maybe it should be closed, if no-one has any more to say.

(Maybe someone could tell me how to close a thread.)
