I like
Deathbed by Relient K. The song has references to smoking, drinking, and such, but it's not promoting it and shows that there are consequences for those things. Also the guy in the song is sorry for what he has done, accepts Jesus as his Savior, and at the end goes to heaven.
Of course, Relient K is a Christian band. Or, rather, a band that happens to be Christian, as not all of their songs are geared towards Christianity.
Other songs by them include
When I Go Down,
Bite My Tongue,
Those Words are Not Enough, and
Up and Up.
Superchick is a good group. They're also Christian. They have songs like
Stand in the Rain,
Hero (which is about trying to make a difference for the better in this world),
Get Up,
Princes and Frogs, and
Wonder (if she'll get it).
While Owl City doesn't teach morals, the lyrics are clean and there have been Christian references in his latest works. (Apparently the guy's a Christian.)
Example,
Galaxies.
"
Dear God, I was terribly lost
When the galaxies crossed
And the sun went dark
But, dear God, You're the only north star
I would follow this far
Oh telescope,
Keep an eye on my only hope,
Lest I blink and get swept off the narrow road,
Hercules, you've got nothing to say to me,
'Cause you're not the blinding light that I need.
For He is the saving grace of the galaxies (galaxies, galaxies, galaxies, galaxies)
He is the saving grace of the galaxies (galaxies)"
Also,
Meteor Shower. (I love this one, one of my all time favorites <3)
"
I am not my own
For I have been made new
Please don't let me go
I desperately need You"
I am careful with my music choices. While there are individual secular songs I like (mostly the themes from Sonic games), most of the stuff I listen to is from Christian bands. And, yeah, most of the songs with morals are from the Christian bands, from what I've seen.
(Since I mentioned liking Sonic themes, I thought I should mention a few things on that:
One thing you should watch out for in Sonic theme songs are ones that mention things Christians don't agree with. Like the song
All Hail Shadow, which I don't care for because the lyrics makes it sound like Shadow deserves to be worshiped. Although I must admit it's catchy and I'd like it otherwise.
The song was by Crush 40. They are a secular band, but pretty safe and clean other than what I mentioned. They do a lot of, if not most of, the songs used in Sonic games.
Sonic songs are typically clean. But one,
His World, did have a bad word, which was censored by being replaced with a different word in the in-game version. But the word was present on the soundtrack CD. (I actually love this song, though, and make sure to stick to the censored version.)
Also the song
My Sweet Passion, Amy's theme from Sonic Adventure, is kind of creepy, and IDK, sounds to me as if it's encouraging sensual desires. It has a different and less creepy meaning when applied to Amy, but still.)
TL;DR: Relient K, Superchick, and Owl City are excellent choices, and some of my favorites.
Be a little more cautious, if you please, when it comes to songs from Sonic games (which are also some of my favorites), even though I'd say 98% of them are clean. Being secular some of them may encourage some beliefs Christians wouldn't.
