Poverty makes man humble

Poverty makes man humble. :lol :chin
I think I have created similar topics. But whenever I remember this I laugh and laugh and laugh until I shed tears....because this is unquestioningly true or may be so true.

One of my lecturers said this. That was a million years ago when I was in school. He demonstrated this, giving some detailed illustrations. We laughed until we fainted.

He doesn't believe in eyeservice!!!

I have known some very poor but proud people. They refused any gifts, food or money. The very learned or intelligent may be proud of those things but still be poor. Our culture says "haven't you any pride?" as if it were a good thing. And now we have "entitlement" issues. We are also told that pride is the sourse of rebellion and our culture has always praised rebellion, whether rich or poor.

It is true that the very rich may be proud of their wealth

Those were my lecturer's words. He was a very funny person. He got us all convinced and his claims made some sense. He said: a poor man is humble...and not that he really is. He only pretends to be and is probably looking for something in return. they like serving wealthy people. They are the ones who come to activities very early and tidy up everywhere. They comfortably do all those dirty jobs...
They are looking for something in return. He said a lot of things.

And if a wealthy soul in spite of his material possession serves the lower class (sweeps the church, arrives early to activities and goes late, sits in the midsts of ordinary people, prefers being addressed as Mr. and not Prof, visits people, pulls over to help a man caught in a traffic, gives a stranger a lift, waits in turn on a line, runs the tap himself, says am sorry etc etc)...then that soul is a typical example of a humble man. No eye-service!!!!

(Perhaps I could have used his precise words: poverty makes a man appear humble.)

AND WHAT DOES A POOR SOUL REQUIRE FROM A RICH SOUL? DOUGH? THROUGH WHAT MEANS?

I humbly submit that you are more intelligent than me Classik.

Now, tell me, am I a rich man or a poor man:confused:
