Needed urgent prayers from all..

my ex-company sent me a lawyer's letter- demanding $80K from me for "lost business opportunity" because I have deleted files in the laptop when I handed over the computer. But the files were in the server.

I do not have that kind of money - and the biz they claim that they lost were due to their incapabilities of delivery of services standard to clients expectations.

Seeking some lawyers help.

Please pray...

Hi Brother Matthew, I'm not a lawyer, I have no legal advice, but there may be a seeming deception perpetrated against you. I would think you do need legal counseling and I would not be in communication with them until you do. I am praying for you.

Hi; I don't know much about the Singapore legal system.

But I would have thought that what they allege still needs a significant burden of proof. When? What? which likely deal and with whom? supposed negligence on your part. A lawyer can ask such questions on your behalf; if they fail to reply or supply adequate details, their silence would speak volumes.

Anyone trying to pull off such a stunt in North America, without accompanying alleged evidence, might well be called an extortioner.

To build on what others have said, I would definitely seek local legal council on this matter, possibly seeing if there are lawyers who will work pro-bono (for free, or close to it). There case definitely sounds flimsy, but we really have not idea what your legal system is like, so we won't be able to tell if they will be able to get away with it.

Just don't do anything until you have consulted a local lawyer.

Update...
I have gotten a lawyer to give them a reply - the essence is that we deny everything about the allegations.
It was a comprehensive letter. that was in beginning dec.

After that their lawyer wrote back and maintained their stand.
My consultations with lawyers here says it is difficult for them to proof beyond a reasonable doubt on the case.

Last week I received a call - they wanted to meet me to discuss the case (settle ?)
We are to meet this Wednesday 22nd at 430pm Spore time.

Please pray for me - for the favour of the Lord upon me.

This is an update - thanks for the prayers.

The company decided not to take further actions.
Rightly so - as they will find it difficult to "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" and to show direct link between the "lost of data" and the biz that they did not get.

However, they put it as doing me a "favour" by not proceeding - I let it go - thinking of God's grace - since the outcome is the same.

God's Grace is indeed amazing !
 
Our Lord definitely listens to us when we pray ... and your situation today, Matthew, is proof that not only does He listen, but hears and responds.

Thanks for the good report Matthew. This brings to mind the Samaritan that was healed.
