To think the effort some of us put out just to be able to pay our rent which is twice the amount of that phone.

:shame. Yes, the "homeless" indeed.

Do not get me wrong...I know there are some honest people out there really hurting and struggling to get by.....but sometimes I wonder just how many out there are scammers.

Completely agree. I was not saying this about all or even the majority of homeless people....just that I'm sure some are scammers.

We discussed this photo in a previous thread. There is no way, without knowing the person behind the cell phone, we can make any judgment on why that person has a cell phone. For instance, did you know that cell phones are often donated to homeless people so that they can call 911 if necessary? As long as the cell phone is charged, the user can call 911 and take pictures (if the phone has a camera).

People are too quick to judge and it saddens me.

Thanks for your rebuke, JoJo. I think I was too quick to judge. I know I"m gulty of this a lot.

A blackberry phone is free here with 2yr subscription. :)

true jojo, and lostlamb, its best to help the homeless by asking then what they need ie food, shelter and suchlike, and pay for that, if they refuse then they only want to feed that habit.

just my 1/2 penny

Thanks...this is a bit of a sore spot for me as my father-in-law is one of those types. Gave him food, shelter, and clothes, and in turn he was ungrateful. My mother-in-law did the same, and in turn he ran out on them. Wanted the goverment to take care of him. That is what I last heard was happening. Last I knew anything of him....he was in a hospital in Roswell. Having no place to go, they were hesitant to release him. So perhaps I am a little judgemental. For too many out there just want everyone else to take care of them. It sickens me beyond words.

i hate to put it this way, feed the animal he'll stop foraging or hunting, stop feeding him after that he will starve as he now can no longer feed himself.

we aren much better than that as any meal that comes to easy well take it without thought of the cost!
in jail were feed and have a place to stay yet some rather than seek help(homeless) will break the law for a free meal.

proper rehab and the desire and help of the lord here is what's needed, when a person is dysfunctional like like your relative( i was in that category as well along with my sis). it takes an act of the lord to deliver them.

the lord is still is fixing me after 13 yrs of being with him.
before i was saved i couldnt hold a job longer than two yrs, had a host of issues to numerous to list. and was almost homeless(just lost 2nd hob, and could no longer pay rent). yet he took me and fixed me

This is an issue I am ever dealing with~ because I love to give...
<Something about when I have it in my hand to give~ and do not extend it can niggle at me later>
What I have learned from the Lord~ is to pray whenever I am approached. :pray

I am not only speaking of people who ask for money,
but those who need my help in classes or on the job or in the market.
Needs are everywhere and growing~ :nod

Then I only assist when the Lord is urging my heart to do so. :yes
When i follow this guideline, I have never been resentful or fooled.

He will lead us to help even those whose motives may be unrighteous~ We may not understand His purposes ~ and our growth as His lovers of humanity is also part of each encounter.

Of course this is just the way the Lord has led me in this... sheshisown~
:shades

I'm curious as to when 2nd Thess. 3:10 can be applied when feeding the homeless? "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat."

You are pretty quick to judge without knowing the true circumstances.
You point with one finger and have three pointing back to you.
This saddens me.

I think we ALL are too quick to judge here - everyone posting in this thread who has made a conclusion about an out of context photo, and in other parts of the site.

I think prayer is in order. :pray

Does that mean that the person standing in line for food for the "homeless" gets a free supscription to keep his blackberry on? Storing photos on a free phone without a subscription.... is that possible? Then maybe I should have a free discarded blackberry phone just for the purpose of having a FREE CAMERA! I can't afford a new good quality digital camera! Mine is so old.... it takes pictures that are not so good as the ones taken by a blackberry. I know, because I have family members who have a blackberry.... NICE picture quality.

Geez... I can barely afford to keep my cheap 10 dollar phone (no picture taking capability) on subscription for 20 bucks a month! :gah

Relic,

I know what you mean! I have been restraining to get an iphone for quite some time because of the added expense I really don't "need". :nono

The photo is just that, a photo. We don't know what is going on there at all, we only see a still moment in time. Is it a volunteer at the shelter that stepped in to take Mrs. Obama's photo? Is it a homeless guy at all? He's black and wearing cold weather clothes, so he must be homeless right? WRONG. We have no idea and only see a picture.

I posted this photo a few months ago here and after a reexamination I felt ashamed for jumping to conclusions. :shame

And Michelle Obama working in a homeless soup kitchen?! Not on your life!

The picture was a "Priceless" take on the incongruity of the Obama's helping the "Poor".

My parents lived on the lower poverty level of society raising five children and did not get government assistance for anything.
