Crafts Printing a custom bible

Since my bible was stolen last year, I've had a constant chore to replace it. Well today is a very special day! Today I printed the third revision on my own printer and it is ready for sewing:

I was really excited yesterday because I had just set up my guillotines but today's the day I get to show them off ?

Now I just have to find the right thread so I can get to work stitching it up... Good fun! ?

Really nice!

I thought I had some good strong jute twine to use for the headbands, but it turns out that it was flimsy jute rope. So I thought I'd use the insulation shell from this old fashioned wire:

And it was perfect in terms of size and flexibility, but the red pigment was rubbing off onto the nice white thread. So for the bottom band I used a piece of bamboo shoot from the same branch that I'd made the awl from:

.. it was a bit stiff, but after all that effort I don't want to do either of them again!

Looks not too bad for a practice run though:

And I thought it would be a lot sturdier to reinforce it with more jute:

Hoping to get the cover on tomorrow! ?

I went and bought some new fabric for the cover ? a tribute to the Kiwi can-do attitude :salute

With cork centre to mimick the texture of leather soft-cover. It is quite important to me that the cover is flexible, for comfort ☺️

Forgot to take photos of the last couple of steps, but what I did was glue a piece of thin cardboard to the cork side in the last photo, then folded the edges of the fabric over.

Next I glued the three cords to the inside of the cover and glued some cotton canvas over them to help prevent them being pulled loose by accident, then glued the cover sheets to the cover.

It's now in the press and I am hoping it will be ready before bible study tonight!

Magnificent. The love and craftsmanship in this is just wonderful. An heirloom to be sure.
Nah it really does deserve to be done again :) Good practice though, probably will be much better next time!

I'm like that with photographs. People who care about their crafts tend to be tougher on themselves than anyone else is.

It's really not good enough though. Can't even see the book name in Philippians. But it's ok, it will do for the meantime and you are right about the sentimental value. It was the topic of the day for the bible study this week! :)

I do have to say that the text and typesetting is better than the other bibles I have though :)

There were Byzantine monks transcribing texts, who always included at least one conscious imperfection, giving glory to God who is alone in being perfect.

The value in this work is not in any perfection, but in the love, devotion, and skill you brought to further His glory.

That's actually really quite funny!

Well I didn't really have that ambition, I just thought the LEB is worth a go. I'm finding it difficult to comment on how God is glorified by it though.. what can I possibly say?

You really don't know who will eventually have this, read it, and be affected by it. Maybe at first interested in the crafting of the book and later by the message.

Spreading the word of God is always to His glory.
