I have met a man who told me a remarkable story in which he claims to have recieved knowledge from what he calls a "higher power". He is very reluctant to connect it to God because he has never been religous. He certainly would never describe him self as a prophet but having heard his story I wonder if he may be. I have followed some of his advice and feel helped by it for sure. However, I am very wary of 'false prophets' so I thought i'd throw it open to the wider world for some feedback. What do you think?

Hello,
If this person is not a Believer, then do not listen to any so-called prophecy that he gives you, for it is from a 'familiar spirit' and not from Father. Even is his 'advice' 'seems' good, it is still from the evil one and can not be trusted at all, and will put you in danger if you are led by it.

thanks for your post but now i'm even more confused! i challenged him to prove the truth in what he said and gave me an exercise to try. it's a kind of meditation technique which he says he was taught on the mountain. it's purpose is to open people up to the love in the world we inhabit. i tried it and i FELT it. it filled my body and spirit and moved me almost to tears. i've never felt anything like it. it affected my behaviour for days, in a very positive way. i felt love warmth and compassion towards everyone i met. how can loving the world put me in danger?
peace.

I must agree with Dave...Jesus warned us of such false prophets. And even false Christ.

Matt 24:11
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
KJV

Matt 24:24
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
KJV

Hope this helps. your answers are in God's Word
:)

God doesn't give us "techniques", this is not His nature or Character. He gives us His word and Spirit to obey. If you don't know His word in Spirit and in Truth, you will believe the lies and open youself up to demonic spirits. I pray that you will get some good discipleship.

so what do i do? just run away or denounce him publicly somehow? wouldn't want him preying on other people. peace.

If you really want to know what to do about this guy, break out your Bible. See if what he says lines up with what the Bible says. If what he says lines up with the Bible, then give him a chance. But if it goes against the Bible, stay away. God doesn't do or say anything that's contradictory to what He said in the Bible. He doesn't go around giving "new" revelation. Better understanding, sure, but not new revelations. What He's said in the past, He's still saying today.
That this guy is not religious is a big caution sign for me. God has used unbelievers in the past to do His work, but I'd be really cautious about this guy. Especially in light of the fact that this knowledge came from a "higher power". Sounds new age to me.
Describe a little more how you opened up "to the love in the world". Exactly how did it make you feel toward others? We are creatures of emotion, but God gave us reasoning ability as well. We shouldn't be ruled by our emotions but by our minds centered on Christ.
