I read on a friends profile: Prosperity attracts Jealousy. Really?

Wouldn't they also be proud of a poor man? Thus poverty attracts pride.

He would have been correct if he had said "Prosperity attracts Envy." What he did write is just poor grammar.

This is exactly what the Democratic Party in the U.S. relies on to garner their votes every fall. And apparently, it works. :gah

Don't get yourself arrested:):D

In this context, what is the difference in envy and jealousy?

Envy is best defined as a resentful emotion that "occurs when a person lacks another's superior quality, achievement or possession and wishes that the other lacked it. Jealousy is an emotion and typically refers to the negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity, fear, and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something that the person values, particularly in reference to a human connection. Jealousy often consists of a combination of presenting emotions such as anger, resentment, inadequacy, helplessness and disgust. In the original broad meaning used in this article, jealousy is distinct from envy, though the two terms have popularly become synonymous in the English language, with both now taking on the narrower definition originally used for envy alone. (Wikipedia)

Neither one is a constructive mindset.

I usually sum them up this way:

Envy: you want what someone else has
Jealousy: You are afraid someone is going to take something you have.
