My Siberian Husky is a month shy of 15 years old and in about an hour we are putting him to sleep. I love dogs more than any other animal and this is very hard for me to deal with. I know its the right decision because he is suffering and constantly in pain....but I could use some prayer.

Pets and Christianity is not a topic I have really studied and if anyone has any specific Scripture that might be of some comfort in this area, please post it. Thanks.

Oh man, I am so sorry that you have to do this. I know how you feel, as I had to put my 13 year old dog down last October. She really was my best friend for a long time and was a close companion through some of my hardest years. They really are man's best friend, and it is such a sad thing when you loose one. I will pray for you today :crying

This is a topic that is still heavy on my heart. I lost mt cat, Opie, of 12 years this past Jan due to an incurable liver disease.

I pray to God that you seek His wisdom and comfort in these trying times. I pray that God watches ober you and comforts you and your family at this time.

You are doing the most unselfish and humane thing possible. There is one verse that caused me to dive into a study on our relationship and stewardship with God's other creatures of creation.

Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

The world puts much emphasis on the subdue part of that verse. We ought to be concentrating on the Biblical definition of the word dominion instead. While online researching Biblical dominion (not Dominion theology) I ran across a book called, "Dominion: The Power of man, the suffering of animals and the call to mercy. It was written by a conservative writer by the name of Matthew Scully.

You can read a good portion of it here:

I logged into Amazon and ordered it a.s.a.p.

It's powerful and hard to read at times because it brings so much truth to light about the condition of man's heart. It's a worthwhile read nonetheless.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with the loss of a pet. We've been through it more than once with quite a few dogs and cats. You gave your pet a good, loving home while they were here and did all you could. You can have peace, knowing you were a good steward where that pet was concerned.

Isaiah 26:3- You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, for he trusts in You.

Philippians 4:7- And the peace of God that passes all understanding shall guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Rom 15:13- Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
