MPAA film ratings

Since the late 1990s, the MPAA film ratings have been as follows:

Rating symbol Meaning

G – General Audiences
All ages admitted. This movie contains nothing that would offend parents for viewing by children.
Such films may contain only mild violence or crude humor, and may have no nudity, sex, drugs or coarse (as distinct from impolite) language. The discrimination/bullying and emotional intensity must be minimal. Alcohol and tobacco may be used in small amounts by adults in the movie, but not by minors, especially in older G-rated films. The violence or horror must be cartoonish in nature or minimal in quantity

PG – Parental Guidance Suggested
Some material may not be suitable for children. Parents are urged to give parental guidance as the motion picture contains some material that parents might not find suitable for their pre-teenagers.

PG-13 – Parents Strongly Cautioned
Parents are urged to be cautious as the motion picture contains some material that parents might consider inappropriate for children under 13 years.

R – Restricted
People under 17 years may only be admitted if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

NC-17 – Adults Only
This film is exclusively adult and people under 18 are not admitted.

Time to stir the pot.

I watch Game of Thrones and I don't stumble. To each their own.

Oh dear the veritable boob and blood fest I started watching it but couldn't find one redeeming thing about it. It does remind me of what's important to the world suppose.

I say to each their own by using discretion. If it causes one to stumble then stay away from it. I play a lot of hidden object games and many of them have story lines that can be considered demonic, but are actually good over evil. For the most part I skip the stories and just play the hidden object game.

A tv preacher says to avoid televised ball games, as some of the players may be demon possessed. Their poor sportsmanship might teach counter productive habits. Ditto for virtually any television show. Even if they don't swear, they still tend to do pagan things like dating in a non Christian manner. Youngsters might be affected by their pagan values. Even science shows tend to promote evolution and such.

This pretty much leaves Gospel type preaching shows, but only if they preach a holiness message. He even wants people to avoid commercially prepared audio Bibles, favoring recording them yourself in the King James. The reader in the commercial product might not have a holy voice, which may affect people somehow. I'm not sure exactly how the voice thing works though.

Just things to ponder.

It's a bit troubling, isn't it?
I feel guilty about listening to music that is sexual. Let me think of an example... Miley Cyrus's album.
Sex is apart of life. But I don't walk around with my tongue hanging out or dancing provocatively or licking a hammer...
I am wondering if I am being too hard on myself? My friend tells me that I am. I become legalistic...
One time I gave away ALL my clothes to good will except for the clothes I had on my back.
I dunno. I posted about it in the prayer section...
so, I can't really answer your question.
I'm trying to figure things out myself.

I'd possibly see an R rated movie, depending on why it's rated R. Actually, I have seen a couple, but they were versions that I suppose were edited for TV--because the parts that would have seriously clashed with my morals didn't show up.
I watch anime, and anime can range from fairly innocuous to needing an M rating for various reasons. (Most series are rated for teens.) I avoid series with any pornographic content.

This is a subject that must be taught from the Pulpit and discussed in every Adult and Youth Sunday School Class but that will not happen in today's Church. I stay away from these movies for a number of reasons.

  1. If I am seen in this environment it will damage my chances to witness to the person that saw me.
  2. My being there will not glorify God.
  3. My wife and I have had children that have had children so I'm fairly sure we do not need sex education.
  4. I am free to do all things but all things will not profit me.
  5. I have the freedom not to do these things and God, not only will know I did them, He will know why I chose to do them.
Just as I have chosen not to drink since I sold out to my LORD, I have also chosen to live as holy a life as I can manage and I find that going to racy movies and reading lusty books is not a thing I want my God to be doing and if I do these things, He is with me. Early on I needed to ask myself, "What would Jesus do," but I did that so often that, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I trained myself not to even consider these things. There has been one effect worthy of note; People notice the change in my life and some ask about it giving me an open door to exercise the Great Commission at some unexpected times.

May God always bless you and yours.

And how sad it is that these completely unrealistic movies are where so many teenagers and young adults get their sex education. No wonder more marriages fail than survive when the husband expects his wife to act like some kind of porn star!

Good point about determining by the reason that it is rated R.

The Passion of the Christ, is rated R.

I just looked at my DVD of it to make sure.

I'll tell you one thing when you watch porn when you are young' it is hard to get out of your mind. And you grow up to have a twisted view of sex. And your twisted view of sex becomes ingrained in you. And the next thing you know you want your wife to swing from a chandelier dressed in a school girls uniform or a nurse or something. Why because this is the stuff that you watch in movie form.
