Including the Bible of course. Anything that takes you to another time and place. Getting to know the characters and the problems they face.
Then you can return to the world you live in now, refreshed re energised. Be in the world but not of the world.
Better than watching movies. I think when the pictures and images are provided for us, part of our brain dies. Falls asleep anyway. Atrophies. Our imagination needs the exercise of reading. It's a workout. Keeps our mind active. Too much YouTube is probably bad for us. Which reminds me. I have to watch that one about ...........

Ok the snob in me has to add, read the classics. If you eat McDonald's every day, you will become Ronald McDonald. Good books are like good nutrition. Of course the Bible is a very good book. Maybe the best book(s) ever written. But read other classics too. I'm trying to get into Homers The Illiad. It's tough. I haven't given up yet. Something tells me it's important to understand the Greeks. They did influence Christianity, you know. Aristotle on Thomas Aquinas for example.

You've made it sound like the Bible is fiction and that aint so bro. But you're right about reading in general. It causes your brain & imagination to be exercised. Having the images fed into your head does tend to make ones imagination go to sleep.

Besides, the book is always better than the movie. They just don't have the movie budgets all the the scenarios that an author can lay down in not very many pages, lol.

Only parts are fiction. The story of Jesus of Nazareth as the Son of God, is true, true, true.
But even Jonah and the Whale, is an awesome story, whilst fictional, has enormous spiritual truth.

I've read bits but caved in, to watching the 3 part series. I regret not reading it though.
Also started and fell out.. i am a slow reader...
I read the alkymist by Paulo Coelho. Was good and easy to read..
I don't mind some secular books. As long as they are not too far out or have an agenda.
Like for example Dan Brown has.
Me no like

Some say that book was Christian themed. Priest, prophet and king.
Yes. I think so. I heard Tolkien became a Christian. Before or after writing i dont know..
The story clearly has some similarities to the Bible

A friend recommended that book to me. I tried to read it but it didn't really groove. It might have been shallow but I'm not sure to be honest.

I read it when i was only 19. Don't know if I would like it today..
He is a catholic the writer....

The Bible is definitely a great story book. It is fine to read it that way too.
Not analysing everything. But if you can get past all the genealogy and the laws an such.
Story about David, Abraham, Samson.
Actually just fun to read about I think.

I have mentioned it before but I have to mention.
The Pilgrims Progress!
Like reading and dreaming. This book is like a fantasy. Yet a true one.

If you haven't read it and looking for a special book to read.
This is the one!
Nothing comes close to this one. ?

Started reading this one..
???

I got into Exodus in a Bible study group...for a while... I struggle to want to read again though...Jordan Peterson does a good critique of Cain and Abel story for example

Yes. Can and Able is an interesting story too.
Many layer's to these stores to. If one is in a study mood. I personally like to read OT with God's intentions a little bit in the back of my mind..

I think personally the story about Jacob is one that got me pretty deep.
Also the story about Samson.
But that's me..:)

In NT i found Jesus, Peter and Paul very interesting to read about. Even just for their personalities and lives.
Imagination is a great thing... TV destroyes it i think. So yes! More books and creativity. Less lazy and empty entertainment. #Hollywierd
