The author's reasons for dismissing the ANE hermeneutic are wrong. I have no axe to grind with any particular theology other than to find the truth, but Genesis 1 had an intended audience at the time it was written, and 21st century AD Protestants were not them. I doubt anyone ever claimed we should view any Scripture through pagan eyes, as the author derisively claimed. Nor did anyone ever claim Scripture was not for all time. But to understand Scripture's intended meaning, one must understand the author and the audience. Not to do so is to change Scripture over time, as cultures change--the very thing the author claims to eschew.
