[__ Praise __] redeemed! now, what?

can any believer be filled w/ the spirit? is this the sort of thing that would require prayer and fasting?
Hi Brother Christ_empowered, as someone that previously taught against receiving the Holy Spirit in the Baptist Church, a student started questioning the doctrine. Long story short we visited a church I knew of that believed in receiving the Holy Spirit manifested by speaking in tongues. I was there to prove it wrong; yeah, I'll pray to be filled & that should do that.
After the Sunday night meeting we assembled around different places of the altar area and prayed something to the effect: Father, if it be your will (very religiously huh?), fill me with the Holy Spirit. Nothing, but with others praying with me I continued and withing a few minutes I broke out speaking gibberish to me, but those praying with me, and for me broke out in praise to the Lord.

There were either eleven or thirteen of us that attended that meeting, and all but the girl that asked about it, and one other girl did not have that experience. Why? I have no idea. Included were my wife and two teen children. A small time later my wife observed another woman praying at the altar in Spanish, and then asked her about it afterward; my wife is Spanish. That woman who we came to know very well knew no Spanish at all; was it a sign to my wife??? Later in years a friend of mine married a woman from Kazakhstan formerly of the USSR, and when attending a meeting she heard someone praying in her native language after the church meeting. More proof? :shrug

As to fasting I didn't and wouldn't know what qualified as fasting in modern church theology. I do know what Isa 58 says is a true fast.
Isa 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isa 58:7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

:-) thanks.

im happy The Lord blessed you with this. Verna says God spared and blessed me to help others, so maybe step 1 is to get into a high quality church and take it from there?

as always, quality Scripture selections, especially the parts from Isaiah. I was actually thinking of that verse the other day, but I didn't know the address.
