I do not adhere to the idea that one must earn respect. I believe, and this is how I live my life, respect is offered to everyone at first meeting. What is earned is continued respect. In other words, when I meet someone new, they have my utmost respect right from the get go but after that, it is up to them and how they treat me whether or not I continue to respect them or not.
