Yes, I see I didnt.there was a tunnel built in the 50s for this bank to its teller.it was in place until 1993.then it was sealed as they widened the street.in the process the found and recorded the relics of early pre and post depression vero .ie caps of colas,Ole glass bottles to a long by gone grove.my wife has a box of this.but not same name.the museum I have been to has the items and storyView attachment 7384

Ah ... yes. Tunnels were the ideas employed when drive-up tellers were installed across the street from banks.

I had a friend who had to walk a tunnel daily ... she worked at a bank in Peoria (IL). Some days, the tunnel was 'creepy,' she said. Perhaps on some days, noise from the street was more noticeable - who knows?

It was bank until the late 80s
The drive through teller still stands.did I mention the tunnel?
First up the old post office locations.the bank one,now vero furniture mart.the west door there is where the tunnel was acessed.it was to the right of it ,If I remember. The nasty looking edifice is the more recent post office.it's being refurbished then it just stopped.View attachment 7387 View attachment 7388

I'm sure that at some point the work will continue. The US Postal Service had to do some trimming to their budgets. (Some of the smaller communities in Illinois either lost their post office completely, or the hours were greatly reduced. Not fun for those people.)

that was the most recent per the article of 1961. I will photo the newest one which is moving.

:hysterical

Sorry ... I didn't want to resist the urge to have some fun :sohappy
lol. the po area where it is now was once the fire station, a gas station. city hall an police station. this edifice was a Spanish revival type as was the gas station.

Makes you wonder why the earlier businesses/departments didn't remain there. Is there a problem with the building itself?

uhm well they razed the gas station to make room for the po, the city hall was move to where the later on separate po-po station was after a swap. I work in the original po-po station.the fire station was later on enlarged an was razed in the early 80's. all of the land for that is owned by the town. still is. my fil was in this station until retirement in 1977. I have a photo. my fil is in this image. I mentioned it an he said when it was taken. late 60's . if you look at the fire station. behind it is the post office .this is all now a parking lotView attachment 7397

Then re-purposing a building on land owned by the town makes complete sense.

Cool picture from the 60's !

parking lot in image is about the same. the road has been widened a time or two .

Understandable about the road widening. Busy routes seem to have need of widening.
